TotalBoat Polyester Laminating Resin (Gallon)

Brand

This economical laminating resin is ideal for first or base coat applications. Great for wet-out of fiberglass and other composites when building or fixing boats, surfboards, automotive molds, and other molds. Unlike many other laminating resins, no sanding is required between coats decreasing work and time. TotalBoat Polyester Laminating Resin was engineered without wax in order to enable a tack to hold composites in place, even vertically. MEKP hardener is included for the final coat. Compare to 3M Fiberglass Resin, Evercoat Laminating Resin, System Three Silvertip, Mas Epoxies Flag Epoxy Resin, and West System 105 Epoxy Resin. Quart and gallon sizes available. I have purchased and used several Totalboat Polyester resin products and plan on buying more this spring.

Started restoring a 1974 Wellcraft and went with another option for polyester resin to save a buck. During the project I really struggled with this cheaper product. Even ended up throwing away a 5 gallon drum because it had started to crystalize from sitting too long.  Ordered the Total Boat product and will NEVER use anything else. This is a superior product!

Well worth it

I'm not a professional at working with fiberglass but I have learned enough to know that quality resins and glass makes any job easier.  I have tried a lot of different types of resins in the past most driven by cheaper prices.  For the money total boat resin is the best I have found.

I highly recommend this product.

This had excellent flow and mixed well. This was much better than a popular brand I bought at the auto supply store. It can be tricky to measure properly.  The first gallon I purchased did not come in a kit, and I ran out of hardener, possibly due to measuring difficulties.  The droppers included in the kits made this much simpler and more accurate.

Much better than competitor product I purchased locally.

Used this resin on my old sailboats' interior and exterior.  Since polyester resin was used to build the boat, it works great.  Use protective clothing and a mask.  It has strong fumes.  I followed Andys' suggestions at Boatworks Today when I applied it.

Great for old sailboats

i used this to recore my gas tank covers/hatch along with the balsa coring JD sells. then finished with total boat gel coat with wax to cure and seal at the same time idea from Andy Boat works today. all was user friendly.

better then the local stuff

Polyester resin

I have always liked your products.  They are good quality and good price. I will be using the resin to reinforce  1/48 scale of an R/C model of the USS Constitution

Poly resin

The resin and hardener worked like it should. The only bad thing I experienced was the can was hard to pour from .I poured the resin into a plastic jug which worked a lot better.

I would buy this again.

I wrote a review this AM after doing a ruinous wet layup.  I repeated what I had read in the reviews stating what the gradients on the pipette meant.  I was wrong as was whomever wrote the other review.  I performed an experiment and found that a teaspoon is about 180 drops from the pipette.  Thus, I thought the other gentleman must have been using an eye dropper or something with a larger orifice than the provided pipette.  The """"1"""" gradient on the pipette is around 40 drops.  Do the math - go from there.

Update on Basic Directions

I have the same problem another reviewer had with the resin not staying tacky.
