TotalProtect is a high build epoxy primer for use above and below the waterline. It creates a barrier coat to prevent water absorption and migration, the main cause of blistered fiberglass hulls. It is also an excellent primer for all underwater metals. This 2 part primer can be used with all paints. 3 to 1 mix ratio formula is easy to use, dries quickly, and requires no sanding. After mixing thoroughly, allow an induction period of 20 minutes prior to reduction and application. Compare to Interlux Interprotect, and Pettit Protect marine primers. Provides a smooth surface with multiple applications.

This appears to work well. I covered fiberglass covered plywood with this in preparation for spray on bedliner.  Used it on my square drop camper I am building.

I use Total Protect as both a barrier and a primer prior to spraying AWLGrip. Excellent primer and keeps anything from bleeding through.

Excellent primer base.

Use this product for blister repair job. Took about 1 1/4 gallons for 5 coats on 19 foot boat. Rolled on nice and hardened up solid as a rock.

Blister Repair

This is a great epoxy primer for hulls. I used this for a small wooden lapstrake sailing dinghy I was building and it was perfect as the undercoat to the finishing paint on the hull. The only caution is that it is REALLY STINKY so be sure to use in a very well ventilated space and use a carbon filter mask.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent product for my application which was a modification to the hull of a composite home built sailboat.  Easy to mix and apply and excellent open periods without the need for sanding between coats.

I would definitely purchase again

Great coverage ,  adheres very well .  I  used it as a top coat after i filled gouges and scratches in the gel coat  on the bottom of the boat , It's been on for a little over a month and  is holding up, doesn't stain easily from the intercoastal water . I don't anticipate any issues with this product

Barrier Coat

The mixing ratio is easy but...I always seem to end up with more of one component than the other. The primer covers well and fills small details. It sands easily. It does not apply smoothly because of the viscosity of the primer, so it needs to be sanded smooth before painting. Several coats go a long way to creating a smooth subsurface for paint. The smell is intense, you will need a respirator.

Great High Build Primer

I have used many epoxy coating systems. This by far the worst. At what seems a 90 percent solids properties coating, and using the supplied roller left a popcorn ceiling look that was unable to be tipped. Tipping produced clumps or product dragged to the side. Brushing left huge brush marks. Does it build thick, yes. Can you sand it? No. Not well. The can says 8 to 12 coats preferably but that is because you need to sand off 75% of that to get the finish flat enough to paint. Maybe i got an old can that was on the shelf for 10 years,  i dont know. But this product i wouldnt use on a doghouse. This is the white barrier coat I am speaking of. The picture shows the pile of pits to fill after much time spent with 40 grit longboarding.

Terrible product

I attempted to put this product on with the supplied 3/8 nap roller only to have a popcorn texture remain after drying.  I've tried thinning with the 200, tried foam rollers, mohair rollers, and just about every other roller out there along with """"tipping"""" and I still end up sanding most the product off in order to get a smooth priming surface.  Out of the 3 gallons I bought for my 21 foot sailboat, I sanded at least 2 gallons off to just get it smooth. Now my barrier is super thin and I actually have to patch some spots that weren't  I would've probably been better off if I had just roughed up enough for a primer and then put on bottom paint. The product label says to use a 3/8 nap, probably to help you put on 3 times too much in order to sand it down smooth.  Very disappointed and frustrated.  I appreciate how fast Jamestown gets products to me. I just feel like this one needs improved or better instructions.
