It looks like the handles are too short too

Not real wood

The quality is not super. One of the mallets would not go together. It looks like the soft wood should allow you to screw in the handle but the threads on the mallet head were mishaped and would not accept the handle. It is useless.

The game directions that came with it were minimal.

Beginner Croquet Set quality

More like a kids set. Very small. Also made in China.
