The Division is an awesome and addictive RPG-shooter, with a great gunplay and an outstanding presentation.
The Division's haunting recreation of midtown Manhattan might be the most impressive urban world outside of a Rockstar game.
The Gameplay includes a number of small but impressive details that can lead to some serious surprise and delight. You can shoot adversaries through windshields when they're crouched behind cars, send flamethrower-wielding foes into a panic by shooting their fuel tanks, or blow up enemies by sniping their grenades.
Bottom line is , don't miss it.

WOW...what a game!!!!

Honestly, I would play this game more if I had the time to, despite the critique surrounding it it's actually a pretty good game despite it's current state. Good multiplayer, mostly helpful and friendly player base, good combat and shooting mechanics.

Good game, despite the rep surrounding it

Got this as a surprise gift for my husband and here's his take:

I've played 32 hours of The Division in 2 days.

I haven't been hooked on a game like this in some time.

Basically, the Division incorporates many of the elements that Ubisoft and other game companies have been building for a while. 3rd person cover shooter, online only, Assassin's Creed style drop-in co-op, Assassin's Creed style open world, et al.

THE GOOD

Remember that trailer Ubisoft posted of the Division, where there are 4 people talking like they lived in the game? Some people thought that was ridiculous (including me), but that's actually kind of how the game plays. You move carefully, you watch each others' backs, you communicate. In the Dark Zone, there is that extra pressure to work together and be coordinated... death is fast at the later zones and there's always the threat of rogue players (although this is more of a possibility and less in practice... penalties for going rogue are high).

The itemization system is at Borderlands' level of addictiveness. The psychological pull to find new gear and accessorize is massive.

The detail and design of the city is amazing. Ubisoft has done a very good job of replicating Manhattan.

Matchmaking is pretty strong. It's easy to jump in and out of games, easy to find players, easy to play as solo or as mobbed up as you want.

Transitions from open world to mission are very seamless. It feels like one world instead of a separate open world and separate instanced missions.

THE BAD

Writing is kind of hamfisted and grandiose. It smacks of writers who have read highly dramatized accounts of first responders and military personnel without meeting them. The characters are a very forgettable bunch. The plot is an interesting premise, but what happens gets largely lost in the rush to 30 and getting into the dark zone.

THE UGLY

It's a very resource intensive game at Ultra settings.

Weapon balance is off... shotguns suck.

There's a couple of bugs here and there with getting stuck. I actually got stuck trying to get my gear from a final mission and ended up losing access to all of it.

OVERALL

Very good game. I love co-op games and this is one of the best I've played. I'm still trying to see what the endgame is like, but so far for the Division, I'm very pleased with the result
