Sound Quality

Build Quality

Appearance

Made with high-grade components and build.

Offers creative options, but with limited musicality.

The Strumba Kalimba is the only instrument that sounds good just playing random notes. It's soothing for anyone to just play with, but I've also learned a few real songs as well.

Love It

umbra.com

I purchased two Strumba Kalimba--one for my grandson and one for myself. These are really well-made and make such soothing sounds and soothing music---not annoying or tinny like other musical instruments that I've listened to. My grandson and I are planning to learn to play each on our own first, and then practice together---duets! These are wonderful for relaxing down time if you want to de-stress and unwind. They were packaged extremely well for shipping and arrived in perfect shape. Very please with my purchases.

Awesome little musical instrument!

This is such an awesome little instrument! I bought it to set out for anyone to pick up and peck out a tune. It's so attractive, the design of it calls to you to give it a try. Everyone from 4 year old daughter to our elderly relatives find it pleasing. Couldn't be happier! The sound is amazing for the cost of it. Love the modern look of it too!

Love it!

This is a really fun thing to have lying around. People just grab it and start playing. It has a super relaxing sound and it's great for kids or adults. Happy I got it!

Fun for all!

It's been a very long time since I have played a musical instrument, but in a few hours I was able to play a song. It helps having some background knowledge in reading music notes but I think anyone could learn to play this relatively quickly. The sound almost reminds me of wind chimes - it's not an annoying instrument like some others when you're learning either. It's a nice soft, happy sound. My son loves it and I don't mind him playing it as it's somewhat quiet as far as instruments go. I look forward to learning to play more songs and getting more proficient on it, it will be a fun thing to bring to the cottage this summer! I love that it's small and lightweight too!

Fun for all ages!

We are loving our Strumba Kalimba! It's such a cute piece, and it has such a fun sound! We will be putting it in our daughter's nursery as a fun little decor piece, but we've been having so much fun practicing playing it! The sound is super soothing, and it's really easy to play. Would make a great gift too!!

Fun to play & makes great decor

Bought as a birthday present for kids and my nephew has been practicing on it since. It has a good sound and came with song notes. Love it!

walmart.com

Purchased this for my grandchild. I'm hoping my son will teach him how to play an instrument at an early age. We'll see….

For the musically inclined

Beautiful, durable, great calming sound. My toddler loves it as much as I do!

Great quality, great sound

I've had a Kalimba on my to buy list for awhile now and when Umbra came out with their version, I immediately grabbed it up for its design aesthetic and sound--from the online videos I spied online. The only thing was that the wood and plastic separated only after a few plays. You can hold it down with your unused pointer fingers on either side, or play without the plastic base and it still makes a good sound separated from the base. So I would suggest a stronger glue connection. Other than that, I think it's a great little instrument!

Fun and Aesthetic

Despite having beyond a full scale of notes there's no note values available except following C major, & without sharps or flats included this offers little expressive range. It's nicely made, & the sound of the instrument is fine, but it would be much more expressive & capable with a fully chromatic scale, even at the expense of greater range, since higher notes don't resonate as well anyways; as is it's just toylike, limited to do re mi fa so la ti do scale only.

Limited musicality

Umbra Strumba Kalimba thumb piano with a beechwood top and white speckled base, featuring 17 metal keys arranged in a fan shape, measuring 6.3 by 4.4 inches, designed for easy handheld play and suitable as a decorative folk instrument.
