Simple and works great, pour kerosene till small holes in bottom of soapstone are full about 4 ounces, put under wood in fireplace, it will burn about 15 minutes the remove.

These Cast Iron Fire Starters are great.  Just squeeze a little lighter fluid onto the brick, set it under the grate with your wood, and light it.  The flames from the fire starter ignite the wood creating a great fire without a lot of work.  

This particular brick was cracked when we got it, but it is housed in the cast iron frame and so we didn't lose any functionality; it still works the same.  Our previous fire starter lasted for over 30 years.  We expect the same from this one.

Great product

The fire starter is a great product.  You can soak the ceramic "brick" with charcoal lighter and place under the fireplace grate and you have a fire going quickly and easily.  The packaging seemed adequate when it arrived at the local store, but both (I ordered one for my son) had broken ceramic bricks.  I have attempted to cement the pieces together with firebrick cement.....but if all the brick falls out between the small top grate, the item will be useless.

The packaging includes a disclaimer that cracks in the soap stone will not affect performance but the soap stone was crushed.  Crumbs.  I expect that will affect performance...

Well you should trust the reviews people right. Everyone says that when you get it the ceramic is all broken in chunks. Only 1/4 of my was broken so it is still use able. I'd send it back but my return might be broken even worse.

Comes broken like reviewers say

Upon arrival the soap stone was broken into @ @ five pieces.  There is a disclaimer that says if the stone is broken it will not adversely affect the working of the starter.  However, when you use the starter ash and residue from the fire falls into the starter.  When you empty it out, the pieces of stone also fall out.  I regret purchasing this product.
