My wife uses this to crush ice for drinks and is liking it very much.  She's not seeing much of a difference between coarse and fine, which is determined by which direction the crank is turned.  Nevertheless, what it does produce works well for her, and it's much quicker and easier than pounding ice cubes in a bag.  She's able to use ice cubes as they come from the ice maker in our freezer; no need to break them down into smaller pieces first.  And the suction cup on the bottom works well at holding the crusher in place, though she does need to keep a hand on top of the unit to keep it from coming off while she's cranking it.
