I can't speak to the extra features and capabilities, as my only need in getting it was basic dialing in and out for a single land line, and for those purposes it works perfectly.  My only criticism is the LED display: the letters and numbers are very small in an awkward font, and it's not very well lit (the hand set photo was taken using a 60 watt gooseneck lamp). There's no port to plug in a telephone headset, either, but that's not an issue for me since I'm only using it 4 hours a day, 1 or 2 days a week, with no more than 5 calls a day.  If you need a call center caliber workhorse phone, I would steer clear of this one.  

P.S.  The red light on the hand set is a battery indicator light.

Great phone.  Didn't need anything super fancy with lots of bells and whistles.  Have for emergencies for home use and back up to cell.  Simple features and easy to use.

VTech Phone

This phone is everything I expected and more. The sound quality is great and the hands free speaker phone makes it easy to multi-task. The price is very reasonable and although I have not had the phone to long, so far I am very happy.

Being  blind this phone has an easy setup and operations. Works great for me that I bought 3 more to place around my home. Now all my home phones have the same operations and handsets have the same feel in my hands.

Right price - right place

I needed a phone for my kitchen and this is the one I would recommend to anyone

Seems to be an excellent phone. It does everything it's supposed to. My only complaints are that the screen is a little to small and not bright enough. Also, I haven't had to buy a cordless phone for years and an not pleased that the handsets are so small and lightweight. Overall though, it's a good phone.

This phone provided what I was looking for: value and easy setup. There is even an "intercom" feature for talking between handsets. More handsets can be added if needed in a larger home.

Good Value

I knew this was a $20 phone, but even with a backlit display the numbers are hard to read - very faint small text. I placed a call and put it on speaker. After the other person said any thing the phone would give out a high pitched squeal for 3 or 4 seconds. I was about 25-30 feet from the base - direct line sight. There is no headset jack on the phone - which was said to be the case in the answer to one of the questions.
