Pros
• the activities in the watch seem to be easy and there are many fun things to do and learn (take photos, record your own short videos, play games, etc.)
• the watch strap is a pliable plastic and soft to the touch. This means your child should find it comfortable to wear.
• the watch uses a standard micro USB port to charge and transfer data. So I assume that means you don't have to have it connected to the computer to charge. If you have a micro USB wall charger for a cellphone or other device, you can charge it that way
• it will last a fair time on one charge, as compared to "grown up" smartwatches. But it will still require regular charging to keep it at peak performance, as specified in the manual
• the watch includes a timer that you can set up to a limit of 99 minutes. This can be useful for, say, when you give your child a task to do, and a time limit to do it in, giving them a sense of responsibility and teaching them time management (homework, cleaning their room, play time, etc.)

Cons
• When I first got this watch, my computer did not work with the software from the Vtech website, claiming it's "not a valid Win32 application". So getting new games might be an issue unless Vtech fixes it.

Neutral
• Replay and entertainment value depends on the child. One child may find endless fun in taking his or her own photos and videos, and playing what games there are. Another child might find taking photos and videos, or playing games repetitive. But the tools in the watch for a child to use - the timer, the alarm clock, count-down timer, the activity that teaches time - can be useful to any child and parent. So even if your child or children outgrow the games, they can still use those tools in other parts of his or her life.

Things to note:
• the manual has instructions on how to remove the watch from the plastic "holder"; whoever will remove the watch from the holder may wish to read that.
• removing the watch from the box is not a task a four year old can manage or something a younger child can manage by him or herself. So it's best if either an adult removes it or assists.
• an adult will also have to do initial set-up of the watch - time and date - unless the child is older and/or is really good at setting time and calendar on devices; same thing with downloading software for the watch and installing games.
• the watch will show time in either analog or digital. The digital watch can show either a 12-hour clock or a 24-hour clock
• the game "Rotating Puzzle" uses pictures to form a four piece puzzle and a player must rotate one out of place piece to complete it. The game not only uses default images in the watch but also turns photos your child takes into puzzles they can play with. What photo or picture shows up is random.
• the manual states the watch is splash and sweat-proof. This means the watch is good for an active child. The manual also states it is not waterproof. So the watch will still work if it's been exposed to a few slashes of water. But not if it has been *in* water.
• I did one drop-test onto a bare hardwood floor from a height of roughly 150 cm and the watch still works. So if your child drops it onto a table from a height of a foot or off a table, it may still work. And if he or she drops it on, say, carpet, it will more than likely work. I haven't tested if it will work after a child, say, throws it hard against something or someone, or drops it from a greater height.

Conclusion:

This Kidizoom Smartwatch is a smart buy: learning how to use it seems easy, and it seems to be a ton of fun. And the tools in the watch can be very useful. The Kidizoom Smartwatch is also a great opportunity to teach a child about being responsible for your things, treating them well, and eventually ready them for the time when they get to have something more complex or expensive.

A really fun toy that is a "smart" gift!

Easy to used 1.4'' color touch screen was better than expected really smooth finger scrolling , Only two hours to full Recharge via the included USB cord, You need to turn it on from the very tiny switch on the back, and program the date and time, if you turn off the switch you loose date & time. Once the home button is pressed the watch shows time and date for 15 sec before dimming . The 82 MB of memory allows you to take (640 x 480) photos or one minute limit (320 x 240 ) videos. The voice recorder has 5 built-in voice effects and can record as far a 10 ft. away. The packaging should be open by a adult, once removing the inside package you need to remove two small plastic screws in the back to remove the Kidizoom Smartwatch. The quality of the watch looks very durable and comfortable, and finial provide me with some me-time with my own smartphone.

I m very please with this watch. My 3 years old daughter like it a lot. It was a perfect toy to bring out as entertainment when we dine out to keep her busy. The best thing is I don't have to worry about her loosing it since she is "wearing" the watch, there isn't many toys out on the market that you can "wear", so I thought this was a great idea. There are also lots of activities and learning games available to download and a few that are pre-loaded onto the watch. I m happy to see my daughter had lots of fun with it!

A toy that you can "wear" everywhere

My 4 year old loves this watch. She likes the idea of telling time. She tries to do it, but she just turned 4 and she just is not so great at it yet. She loves to wear this watch. She quickly learned to use the Home button to get to the menu screen. She can play the preloaded games and also the free games we downloaded from V-Tech Learning Lodge. It was great on a long car trip and in the Doctor's Office Waiting Room (no germy toys for her!). She loves the voice recorder and taking pictures just as much as playing games. She plans out what pictures she wants to take later, and records herself singing her favorite songs she learned at school so she can listen to them later. I love the rechargeable battery and how easy it is to navigate. I was able to help her learn to use it - which took 5 minutes - with no previous experience. It really is a lot like a smart phone, without the call, text, and browsing features. Games are like apps and it will sync picture, video and voice files to you computer when connected if you allow it. Overall I think this is a great toy, especially for on the go. She laughs while she plays and really seems to enjoy herself. She is still trying to tell time, but this will come with exposure. I highly recommend this toy.

Easy to Use and Keeps her Occupied for Hours

Overall Performance:

Upon turning on the watch, you'll be prompted to set the date and time, which is done by using your finger to swipe on the screen. Once complete, Tap the Check icon and press the home button to get started. Due to the battery switch, I got to experience this three times but I was able to pick up on the functionality of the watch very quick and was able to do his own system maintenance going forward. This watch is meant for kids and not for one if you're looking for high resolution pictures. Kids will love it, which is what it's meant for and as an older brother also showed it off to the younger sibling.

Great Smartwatch for a kid!

My 5 year old was eager to have this watch and was thrilled when she finally did. She hardly put the watch down since getting it. Very nice features and easy to use. She was bored quickly with the games but is very fascinated with the camera and voice recorder. She is practicing to tell the time using analogue. I dislike that the memory filled easily but love that fully charged the battery last a while.

Great product

This is a nice first tech watch for your young one. Has a touch screen so it's easy to use. Features a camera function that takes stills and videos. Also has some games, voice recorder, alarm, watch faces, etc. Can be linked to the website to download more content.

VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch

Got this for my almost 4 year old son. He was instantly drawn to the amount of different features available to him on the watch. His favorites were the ability to take photos and the voice recorder. He found the games were a little frustrating although that could be an age thing. We did install the Learning Lodge software (easy install) although haven't got around to downloading any of the extra games as of yet.

It's a little on the big side for a small kids wrist although I understand why, the screen does need to be of a certain size to be effective.

Overall my son enjoys it. As a parent I like that it's nice and portable and keeps his attention. Packaging was easy to open and the watch itself does seem durable enough to hold up to a kid full of energy :) The splash resistance it advertised as not been tested yet, but I'm sure will come into play and will be appreciated :)

All around I would recommend this to anyone, though I'd think it would suit kids that are well into their 4's and above to fully understand and get all the benefits out of the watch.

Packed full of fun!

Bought this watch for 3 children: 3yr old, 6yr old, & 7 yr old. The 6 & 7 yr old kids really enjoy this watch. It has lots of different features that keep them busy; very convenient when you're waiting to see the doctor or dentist. Their favourite features are the video recording & camera. Lots of fun! I wouldn't recommend this for a 3 yr old. It's too complicated a watch.

Great watch!

The Kidizoom smart watch is a cool device for young kids which is great for teaching them how to read time and familiarizing them with digital touch screen technology. In addition to a watch with many colorful creative themes it also serves as a digital camera, voice recorder and gaming device. The image quality isn't amazing but good enough for kids to play with. The included games are a little basic and while they're good for young kids, older kids may become bored with them quickly. You can get more games and themes for free by connecting it to your computer, but you'll definitely need to help your kids with that.

While the gadget itself is cool and works great out of the box, the PC software required to download the extra games and themes could be better. During my sign up and attempts to download extras and update the watch, the program frequently got stuck loading and would close unexpectedly making me start over. It did work eventually after multiple attempts. This software is entirely optional and you can use the watch out of the box without the additional content but it would be nice if the software and the extra features were easier to use.

Overall this smart watch is a cool and easy to use toy that will teach and entertain young children right out of the box. If the optional software is updated to be easier to use, I would bump the rating up to 4 stars but the current version of it can be a bit difficult.
