First off, unpacking this product took less than two minutes, which is a HUGE plus for me.  The instructions are very clear to follow to get the unicorn up and running.  This unicorn is so cute and fun!  Not only does it have charms to place in the hearts and learn colors and shapes, but squeeze the tail and the wings flap!  The kids go crazy over it.  It's sings and even teaches kids Spanish, how cool! Unicorn of Fun!

Our 1.5 year old daughter has been playing with her "pony", the VTech® Starshine the Bright Lights Unicorn, for the past few days.  Although we have to remind her that rainbow charms aren't food, she really loves all the different shaped pieces that she can pick up and the interaction from placing them in Starshine.  We haven't had her using it with the optional Spanish mode enabled quite yet, but think that's a great feature for multilingual development.

Pros:
-Bright lights and catchy sounds sure to keep your little one's attention.
-Variety of charms to handle for tactile learners.
-Multilingual option to teach shapes and colors in Spanish.
-Volume switch to adjust from High to Low.

Cons:
-Automatic Shut Off feature is nice, but requires changing modes to reactivate the toy instead of turning back on when a new Charm is put into Starshine.
-Included Charm Storage Dish doesn't have snapping points to attach the charms in the same way they socket into Starshine, so flipping the tray over makes all of the pieces fall off.

Overall, we think she really enjoys this toy and it's a top pick in her collection.  When she's walking around with her little charms in her hands, we know it's only a matter of time before she's going to ask one of us to come watch her make the "pony" fly by squeezing it's tail to activate the flapping wing mechanism.

"Charming" for Little Girls

This toy was for my 2 year old daughter, who also happens to be special needs with some developmental and physical delays. We have a blast playing with this toy together. She has really tiny hands to that makes it hard for her to wrap her hand around the tail to squeeze it for the wings to move, so I squeeze it for her and fly it around her and she just laughs and thinks it's the funniest thing. She really enjoys the lights and music and will dance right along. I like the fact that the gems are able to fit into any hole, which is good for the younger kids that can't quite do shapes, but this is great still for fine motor skills. We don't speak Spanish but I think it's great how this has a bilingual option. Very cute fun toy all around!

All around cute toy!

We are obsessed with unicorns! My 23 month old was so excited about her "neigh neigh".  She loves making the wings flap and pressing the blue heart button. She does need help with the charms. The songs are adorable and she dances like crazy when they come on. Love the colors and easy to play with. The only thing I have a complaint about is I wish the charms came in a box or something with a lid. They are easily bumped off of the heart plate. Overall would recommend! Love our Unicorn!

Brought for grand-daughter for her 4th birthday.   She love unicorns .   And she loved this gift.  She was just to tickled to get this gift.  She lives in another state so I ordered it on line and it was sent to her home in NV

Awesome !!

Was great and fun until it suddenly died in less than two months.  Replaced the batteries and it is still not working.  My child is very disappointed.

Great purchase

This toy should NOT be rated for 1.5 year olds! The charms are easily small enough for an 18 month old to put in her mouth and big enough to cause it to lodge in the throat either by swallowing or tripping. One and a half years olds still do experiment with putting things in their mouths. Shame on V-Tech for marketing this to shoppers with children this young. The box is clearly marked 1.5-4 years old so I bought it for my unicorn loving granddaughter not realizing there were loose parts. (The "charms" appear as push buttons on the toy.)  This should be recalled and the box relabled for older kids. And if you think you'll just watch your child while they play with it, it only takes a split second for them to get it in their mouth, as I learned first hand.
