The first time I even saw one of these litter boxes was when my boyfriend and I went to visit his mom in Texas and she had asked him to do the litter.I was amazed at the 3-pan system and the fact that there was no scooping involved! I immediately had to have one for my kitties. The instructions say to put the sifter on top of the other 2 pans,but I have found that stuff tends to stick to it that way when you go to sift it,so it's a better idea to put the sifting pan between the 2 normal ones and just pour the litter into that and sift it. Overall,this litter box has everything: a lid to keep my kitties from slinging litter out of the box,a door and filter system on the lid to help filter the smell,and best of all-NO MORE SCOOPING!!!

Much Less Hassle!

I bought this pan to keep my pet's mess under control and after a little coaxing she went and used the pan. The clean-up was a breeze and no bags or deodorizers were needed. I wish I would have seen this product sooner. The only set back is that you have to use it with the more expensive clumping litter, but other than that this is a great product. I find my self telling all my family members about it as well. I have to say, money well spent.

Cleaner than gthe real expensive pans

We have a larger size kitty and needed a large size sifting pan preferably with a cover. After much research we decided to give this one a try as Walmart had a great price. Arrived quickly and sooner than expected. 4 latches hold the top on securely. The sifter works great. Made of good material that should last for a long time. Bottom line.. the Kitty liked it as she "helped" us set it up !

Right size for larger kittys

Finally, a sift and clean that works, as long as you place the black sifting box BETWEEN THE TWO OTHER BOXES. Numerous reviews have suggested this so I did it and it works great, just lift out the dirty box (on top), pour the whole dirty box into the black sifting box which is sitting on top of a 'clean' box, lift the sifter which strains the clean litter into the clean box, pour the poops and pees into the trash and reset. It can be a little heavy lifting the box, but the results are worth it. I also have the OmegaPaw self cleaning box which is a good concept, BUT, the plastic is flimsy, it constantly falls apart, dumping litter out the sides onto the floor, the inner sifter won't stay in place, and it has a 1 inch crack on the folding part of the sifter, soon it will be useless. Also, for some reason the box smells horrific all the time; the new one has 2 carbon filters on top, it's taller, and when we got it I left the omegapaw ready next to this new one and the cats over a week gradually moved over to the new one. Win win! Buying a backup box now.

The BEST BEST sifting box ever!

Love this litter box. It's exactly what I was looking for. I drilled holes in one of the bottoms to serve as a sifting tray for my wood pellet cat litter and it works great! I just had to remove the plastic door because my boy wouldn't get into it until I did. Now he has plenty of room to move around. It's much larger than the typical Van Ness box he had been using for years.

Huge Box!

The practical design of this Van Ness Giant Sifting Enclosed Cat Pan is simple to use--for you and your kitty. Kitty can easily get in and out of the hinged hanging "odor door"--just like he would on a traditional/standard enclosed litter box. Easily the best feature: the alternating two pan with sifting screen system--you (or perhaps your spouse) don't have to fish around for p%p with a yucky little scoop in an icky litter box anymore!

Set-up is super quick & easy: Just stack the two pans with the sifting screen on top, then fill with clumping litter and snap on the top enclosure (which by the way, has a replaceable Zeolite air filter). That's it for setup.

When you're ready to tidy up the litter just snap off the top/enclosure, lift the sifting screen up and hold it over the stacked pans...shake the sifting screen (kind of like an archeologist sifting at a dig site)...the reusable litter will fall back into the top pan leaving the clumps in the sifting screen. Chuck the clumps. Place the sifting screen in the empty/bottom pan, then pour the sifted litter into the empty pan setup, restack, attach top/enclosure, and it's ready to use again!

Otherwise, there's only one issue I've noticed about the utility of this product that I wish were different: I wish the sifting screen had handles or some other mechanism that would make it easier to lift out of the pan.

[Note for those who care about the color of the box: When I ordered this item, the image displayed depicted the product as a viridian green. The color of the box I received was a chamoisee brown.]

Efficient & Economical

I am not going to say it is perfect, or could not be improved but sure beats using the old open kind. I find it easy to clean, no odors, and the cats love using it. Even kittens like their privacy. I am glad I bought it, and would buy again if I had to.

Best yet

I got this because the clumping litter was too hard to scrape off of the old litter box with the little scoop but it actually clumped up into bricks through the strainer and was even harder to scrape off so we switched to a non clumping type and it works great now.

Works best with non clumping litter.

loved the sz however the door is too high for dum of the cats. I'll need to build a sm ramp for those who cannot access the door.  A 5 star would have been given if it weren't for the height of the door. The fact that no smell emits from litter box is awesome.No solatters on wall r litter scattered everywhere.

No smells no cleanups

this sifting pan does sift and this is the biggest size I have found  but my husband and I both together cannot get the pans apart  either the sifter or the 2 trays  so the price is amazing  we have drilled holes and attached plastic coated clothes line to make handles on the sifter we do not put but 3 inches of litter at a time and we do not put the 2 trays together  clumps do stick to sifter and trays so a little cooking spray seems to help and we garden hose the sifter and trays as needed and dry thoroughly  of course we can never use the covers  (ones handle was broken off completely when it arrived)   this extra large is still not as big as I need because 1 of my cats is aprox 20 to 25 lbs  not fat large   someone is missing a huge market here   sifting is much easier than scooping  so can someone please go back to the drawing board make bigger pans with hand holds and trays that can be put together  lids  that can be used with hand holds etc.  we'd pay a lot for those
