It is a medium sized carpet that covers the entrance to the litter box. It holds well in place and holds well the grains thrown outside the litter box. The cat pattern on it is beautiful.

Excellent litter box mat

Keeps things clean!

I'm a mom to 5 cats, and I use the clumping natural Swheat Scoop cat litter & Van Ness Extra Giant Litterbox. I had this mat for approximately 3 years to prevent the litter being tracked all over the house (with 5 cats, there is quite a bit of traffic), and it's doing a fantastic job in catching about 60% of the litter off their little paws right at the box. This is a great help for me, and greatly reduces the amount of sweeping & vacuuming I have to do on a weekly basis.

The effectiveness of the mat will depend on the type of litter you're using - some will be stuck to your cat's paws more than others, and naturally it will work better with a litterbox that has a top and a door rather than a tray, that allows cats to jump out on all sides.

I take the mat, and empty it twice a day back into the litterbox, and rinse it with a handheld shower about every third day.

For me, this product has become an essential.

An Essential!

I am so glad I got this inexpensive mat. There used to be sand and dust all over my laundry room because of my kitty's old litter box. I got a new one that is inclosed and also got this mat to put in front of it to trap the sand that is stuck to his feet and it does that job very well. There is no more dust and sand problems in my laundry room at all now. My cat does not mind stepping on it at all which was also a concern of mine before I bought it.

Great for trapping sand

This litter mat helps as a deterent to my cats tracking litter all over the place. I have 4 cats so there is a lot of litter that does follow them out of their litter boxes. The litter mat does help to keep it in the bathroom which is where I keep their litter boxes. I use clumping litter and that tends to get everywhere, but the mat helps to at least try to limit it in the bathroom. I used to use a small towel, but the litter mat works better. There is still litter on the floor, but not as much and I think they like being able to "wipe" their little kitty paws on the mat.

Litter Mat for Cats

I like it but the cats aren't crazy about it. It seems to do it's job but they find it a bit spiky.  I just bought one to try and I don't think I'll get any more.  I think it's worth 5 stars but they don't.

It got a "fair" overall rating - because it would catch some litter.
Which I could then turn around and dump back into the litter box.
Value is average - cuz it was fairly cheap compared to any other mats out there.
On the "how often do you use this product" - I'm going to put that I used it once a week, so my review seems legit - that I'm reviewing a product I actually did use....and I used it for about 6 months before I switched.

Now - for my review:

This thing slides around everywhere.
Even if you manage to get it under the edge of the box. (and this mat is small - and putting it under the box - well - your cat is probably then just going to jump right over it anyway then.)

This to me is a waste.

I did a review on another mat that works way better for me.

Another complaint about this one - is that the back is so shiny smooth - that if any dirt, grit, or even dust gets on the back - you can't just wipe it off or sweep it off, you have to sweep and mop the area underneath it (where you will be placing it) and then go wash the back of the mat - so you can reduce sliding.

Who wants to put all that effort in? not me.

Blah, didn't like it. More trouble than help.

Mat is made of hard plastic and cats would not use it. It needs to be made of softer material. Would not recommend it.

Would not buy it again

I bought 2 of these mats to put in front of my cat litter-boxes to reduce cat litter being spread all over my floors unintentionally by my 2 cats. However, once I received the mats, I didn't have the heart to use them.  The mats consist of hundreds of hard, tiny plastic spikes, presumably so the litter gets trapped betwe en the spikes.  If you put your hand over the spikes or try to put any weight on your foot on the mat, it HURTS.  These are not nice, soft, massaging spikes - these are hard, pointy, mean spikes.  I just can't do that to my 2 cats.  Even though I didn't take the tags off the 2nd mat I bought so could return it, I am going to throw it in the garbage instead because I don't believe this mat is fit for use by cats.  I think the designer secretly hated cats.  There are so many other affordable cat litter-mat options out there that would not hurt your cat's tender paws. Tell your cat that you are looking out for him/her - and buy a different mat!  I strongly recommend you look for a kinder, gentler mat for your beloved pet!
