Description & Features+
Laff Records was an independent record label active in the '60s, '70s, and '80s that specialized in comedy albums, and while they released material by George Carlin, Shecky Greene, Joe E. Ross, and Kip Addotta, Laff was best known for its raunchy "party" albums featuring rude and raucous material from African-American comedians. Laff issued some important early material from Richard Pryor as well as a handful of albums by Redd Foxx, and was the recording home of many black comics who were known for their work in African-American nightclubs on what was then known as the "chitlin circuit." Black & Blue: The Laff Records Collection is a four-disc box set that brings together complete albums from many of Laff's best-known artists, including Skillet & Leroy, Dap Sugar Willie, Jimmy Lynch, LaWanda Page, Wild Man Steve, LeRoy Daniels, Marsha Warfield, and Mantan Moreland. As well as preserving a handful of albums that have long been out of print, Black & Blue: The Laff Records Collection celebrates a wild, uninhibited, and often overlooked chapter in the history of American humor. ~ Mark Deming
