The pot started leaking after 9 months of use 1 to 2 times a week. We read and followed all of the instructions very carefully. We even left the pot to cool overnight before cleaning so it wouldn't crack. It still ended up with a hairline crack that leaked out broth and rendered it unusable.  This item is too expensive to break within 1 year.

I bought this because I wanted to replace my old slow cooker/crock with a non-toxic alternative.  It is advertised as a crock and stock pot.  It feels safe for stock with nothing but liquid but despite the claims that is makes chili and stew like a crock, I feel it would only be safe it you made watery chili soup or very watery stew.  The "slow" setting goes to a boil almost immediately and burns anything thicker than broth.  On both my attempts I had to transfer my meal into my old 1970's crock when it started to boil and burn right away in the vitaclay.  I would not feel safe leaving it unattended.  I emailed the company and they state the "slow" setting is preset at 212F which is the boiling point.....no wonder.  The only other lower option is "warm" which is not a safe temperature to cook, only to keep warm.  Would not recommend for anything but bone broth and even that is probably cooking too high and boiling off the nutrients.  Glad I did not retire my old 1970's crock.  Would only rate 1 star but I like the non-toxic clay so added a star.

Not a slow cooker/crock

I would return this if it wasn't past the 120 day window when I tried my chili.  Would only rate 1 star but I like the non-toxic clay so added a star.
