I bought this 3 mths. ago. I have always wanted to grind my own seed/nuts to make butters, and seed to make flour etc. I have used the 32oz. dry grain blender to grind cane brown sugar as I wanted to use less sugar in coffee, teas and other drinks, and it works great. I am looking forward to using it and enjoying the outcomes. Thanks for a great tool. Good tools make the work more enjoyable and easier.

The dry grains container has much more power and functions than I imagined.  Learning all the different and exciting things I can do with it has been really really fun.  Honestly it is VERY different from the wet container, you will not be disappointed.  I should have bought one sooner.  Oh AND for spices you can put a small amount in to grind!  I was afraid I would have to put a lot in but I can even put 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds in and turn it to powder.  It's really incredible.

Learning new features daily!

I've had my Vitamix for over 10 years.  We used it a lot at first, and then only sporadically.  Now, we have transformed our diet using Dr. Gundry's Diet Evolution and are consuming fresh foods that have the least toxins.  The dry grains container is perfect for making nut flours, breaking flax seeds, grinding coffee (I know, I used to be a fresh bean aficionado and have to worry about heated blades on the coffee bean.  I'm over it, speed and accuracy work way better for me.) This container is also small enough that I can ditch my Magic Bullet - haven't used it once since getting my smaller Vitamix containers.

Exactly what I needed.

I always wanted the dry grain container to complement my tall all-purpose Vitamix container, but never thought I'd use it enough. I bought this with my Vitamix credit from their settlement so I paid 1/2 price. Only used it once so far but it was fun to watch! I don't understand the difference between food swirling upward vs. downward but it definitely worked perfectly for the sugar that I had to grind to become caster sugar/superfine sugar--never even heard of it before. Now that I have it, I'm counting on the "if you build it they will come" philosophy--& hopefully I will use it more. Only wish it came with the shorter tamper, would have been nice of them to include it--I'm not buying one, will make do.

Wow!

Bought this for the purpose of making powdered sugar and grinding fresh coffee. I have made powdered sugar out of coconut sugar (pictured) and organic cane sugar. Both blend up beautifully. I can't tell the difference between the powdered cane sugar and store bought. Love that this makes organic powdered sugar affordable and easy! Grinds my coffee beans up perfectly with little effort. Have also made oat flour with this. Well worth it. Very satisfied with what this can do and how well it does it compared to using just the regular container. Highly recommend if you're looking to grind dry stuff.

Small, but powerful!

I'm always amazed at the precise engineering behind the Vitamix.  In the case of the dry container, it's very cool to put in a couple cups of whole wheat berries and then watch as the Vitamix turns them into flour and how the grains/flour pushes up along the sides of the container until they get halfway up the container and then fall into the center to be ground up by the blades.  In one minute of grinding, every bit of grain/flour goes through the blades several times so that the grinding is super efficient and complete.  I never used to bake much because I didn't like purchasing flour at the store and then having to keep it on hand and try to keep it fresh.  Now, I don't have flour on hand.  I have whole grains on hand that I grind into flour.  Much fresher, much more nutritious. And I've really gotten into baking now.

I love being able to grind grain into flour

I ordered 50 pounds of organic spelt flour but they sent me grain instead. So I decided to get the 32-ounce dry container to grind the grain into flour. I filled it right up to the 32 ounce mark and ran it on high for a minute. I was able to shake the container by the handle to keep the material circulating and that worked fine.

I have found many uses for my Dry Grains Container including: grinding dog kibble for pup who has a tough time chewing. I was able to replace/recycle other small appliances, such as, my coffee grinder because this does the job, and does it well. However, the unit did not come with a tamper. This doesn't make sense to me especially for the price paid! When working to grind dry grains you most certainly need a tamper. I am very disappointed and refuse to spend more money on the tamper; thus, it makes this dry container limited on what it is intended to be used for. Very misleading.

Works like it should except you need a tamper

I tried to like this. I grind a lot of oats for gluten free baking for my daughter with an allergy. After grinding several pounds of whole oats this dry grain container doesn't do any better of a job than my full size container. Disappointed I wasted my credit on it.

Not happy at all

I believe my Vitamix was purchased in the early 1990s. I've used it constantly since, especially the dry container which served to grind the rice for our waffles every Sunday morning since. It finally wore out this year, though the liquid one still seems okay. So I asked you which of available replacements would work.

I guess I've had the replacement for over a month now and have been amazed to discover that it takes me almost twice as long to grind the rice kernels as it did with the old one. And the rice never gets to the desired fineness; I have to put it into an even more ancient coffee grinder that was purchased second-hand in the eighties to get it to the desired fineness.

The shape is different; this is more square and the old one was more rounded. I don't know if that's the source of the lost efficiency. I won't return this since I'd have nothing to prep my waffles in, but I am very, very disappointed.
