Moved all video, music, and photos from my C: drive over to the 3TB drive which freed up 50% of my C: drive. Recording and taking photos of my grandkids sporting events means thousands of clips and photos and here is what's awesome...this thing used very little of its space to do so. Very happy with this purchase.

Awesome External HD

Just plug it in and it does everything all by its' lonesome. Once it is loaded and online, there are variety of things you can do with it. Bunch of storage space in one unit that can be transferred from one machine to another.

Before buying from Walmart i shopped around for the 3TB storage i needed, Walmart had the best price around. The hard drive is almost 3TB, it was actually 2 but still that's plenty of storage for making huge movies with a HD camcorder and storing school files. The read and write times are fast (i have 3.0 USB port) and i cant complain about a single thing. Over all if your looking for a good Hard drive with plenty of storage, you found the right one.

Perfect for making movies.

My husband and I bought a 3TB drive from Walmart over a year ago and we love it; we just bought another 3TB drive again from them cause we still need more storage space; we've got family pics, movies, tv shows, music and much more going onto these drives. We couldn't live without them.

great product we can't live without

This is not my first WD external. I was still running my old external a 1TB Western Digital, a couple of years old. It has run fine and continues to do so, but I have finally eaten up all the space on it and it was time for something bigger. Transferred all of my files to this one with plenty of room to spare. Very good space for the price paid $155 after taxes with free shipping. As long as this one holds up as well and as long as my last one it is a good deal. This is not a hard drive you want to be transporting around frequently. If you are on the go I would recommend a smaller drive as this one requires a plug in to the wall for power as well as the connection to the pc or laptop itself. If you are going to keep this hard drive sitting in one place I would recommend it.

So far so good.

I'm using the MyBook with Ubuntu Linux version 12.04. I could not get the drive to work as a boot device because of the way the drive handles 2GB drive limitations. It works fine as a non-boot drive when formatted at EXT4 for Linux.

The drive supports USB 3.0, but my PCs only have USB 2.0. I was afraid it might be slow, but it seems fine. I hooked the drive up locally vis USB to run a full backup of each PC. I then put the drive on the server for my home network. The other PCs on the network do incremental backups to the drive over the network. The server runs MythTV and stores TV programs, photos, and music on the drive. I'm having no problem with USB 2.0 speeds using the drive.

So far - so good. Wish the instructions would have been in a booklet instead of/in addition to having to look it up in the computer.

Good So Far

After Install I wanted to use windows 7 backup utility instead of western digital's and I had conflicts. I searched online and found a solution and now everything works fine.

Hooked it up, everything went fine until day three and it's been a constant, "usb device not recognized."
I'm pretty computer savvy, but after many tries, nothing. WD service had little advice to help me.
I would return it but unfortunately I paid cash and can't find my receipt.
I have two Seagate's and have had no problems with them.
Unfortunate choice and although I keep receipts, this one isn't to be found.
I can't give this any rating because it's not working.
Think ahead.

Was unable to install product, external hard drive was shipped in an ineffective package. Product corrgated with packing material to protect product, i.e. bubble wrapping, peanuts, etc.
