This 2 TB SSD external drive replaces the 1 TB SSD external drive I bought 8 years ago. It is significantly smaller and lighter than my old drive. Easy to use and I did not have one problem!!!!  I love this drive.  It fits perfectly in my shirt pocket, with no 'sag' on the shirt!  I plugged it into my docking station and was able to copy the entire  old 1 TB drive over to the new 2 TB drive in moments!!! AMAZING!!! STUNNING!!! I can store more with less of a footprint!!! And I could choose my favorite color, to add a little "pizzazz" to my desk!  I am very satisfied with this purchase and the favorable result.  Highly recommended!!

I found my Mom's WD My Passport Ultra cleaning out her house don't know if I have everything I will need to use it

I need help

I have a 2TB and needed a bigger drive. The 2TB is finicky about the cables, but once you have a good cable that seats well, it's fine with Mac. The 4TB needed a firmware update and I had to spend some time booting up an old Windows box to update the firmware to make the 4TB drive usable. Will reconsider if I ever buy another WD My Passport. Good price/perf though, so I consider these drives to have a short useable life as backup devices and eventually will replace with something else with more capacity as my needs grow; so these are transitional and for that use, they are fine.

Just so-so - No Mac Firmware Installer

I bought my 1TB Passport SSD two years ago to hold my Mac backup files. Four months ago, it suddenly became inaccessible to my iMac and I can no longer read or write files to it. I was expecting it to last longer than 18 months before dying on me and essentially losing all my backup data in the process.

LIfetime is way too short

I bought the 2TB Passport in order to back up mostly Spitfire Audio samples from another external.  Not only did it constantly keep turning off in the middle of a big transfer of 600GB, my computer restarted itself. (Not good in general).  It also kept giving error messages saying something was corrupt.  It took me the WHOLE day to deal with it.  Well, the next day I got an even exchange for a Samsung at the same price.  Samsung?  Worked flawlessly and in handles everything in an hour.  Never again will consider a WD product.

Returned to Store

I bought this and it ran awesome on Catalina... then my Mac asked me to upgrade to Big Sur and it turned to disaster performance. it will only allow me to open a few photo files on preview and photoshop before locking up my computer and forcing me to unplug from the usb-c port.
Often it will just shut down and restart my computer. 
I've used WD external drives for years and have always had excellent performance and reliability. 
My question is do I need to reformat the drive?

runs terrible on on Mac Big Sur !!!

Bought the 2TB version in February 2022. My last WD external drive lasted many years so I went for WD again.
It's an easy-to-use plug-and-play solution and fast. So far, great. 
Today, I decided it was time to mirror it to my two backup drives and it suddenly stopped working without warning. It was about 85% full and on average, I used it a few hours per week.

I can still see the drive in the device manager, with the name changed back to factory settings. I cannot open the drive or access any files. 
In file explorer, clicking on a recently used folder on the drive only shows the dialogue: Please insert a disc into SDHC (D:).
When going to "safely remove hardware and eject media", it shows the factory setting name but the drive is greyed out.

I lost a substantial amount of photographic work that I won't be able to get back. Partially, it's my own fault for not backing up more frequently.
At the same time, I really do expect a drive that is only in use a few hours a week to last longer than a year.

Sleek design, fast, loved it - until it died

Can't get the WD software to install. Continue to get an error msg re: javascript. Can't even copy and paste files onto it so it is of absolutely NO use. Disappointing because I've used WD SSDs for years.

Waste of time and money.

I bought 4 pieces of the 4tb version, since I had two 2tb versions. Although what I faced with the 4tb is that my data kept consistently getting lost. where it wont mount and I had to format them so they worked again. I was able to recover the material through disk drill, but after formatting and using them again. They consistently kept not working. All 4 of them.

KIND OF DISSAPPOINTED

I bought a 5TB passport and my computer shows that I have installed it in my Windows 11 computer.  I have seen no dialogue boxes asking the time when I want it to back up my files---or anything else.  the only dialogue box I have tells me that i have installed it.  

The device came with a lengthy brochure technical booklet in (seemingly) every language in the world but it came with no operating instructions nor have ai seen any during the installation process.  What am I missing?
