Looks like most negative reviews are from people not prepping properly or even at all before using this, there's instructions on how to prep wood BEFORE applying the sealer for a reason, if you do the prep/follow directions this sealer is fantastic, yall need to stop putting it on over chipped paint then acting like its the products fault.

Prep wood 1st, Bad reviews are mostly user error

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is very easy to use. The cleanup is easy too and not messy. It brings out the natural beauty of the wood and makes the grain more noticeable. Loved the way our porch turned out. Thankful for the protection it provides.

Great product

I have wood posts and railings on my wrap around porch. I have used this product every year since the porch was new in 2008. Still looks brand new. No discoloration or grey wood. I power wash the wood, wait a day and then apply the product. One trick I have found is I put the 5 gallon pail in my hot tub overnight. I use bricks to hold it in place. This lets the liquid warm to 80-90 degrees. The product flows much better. I use a Wagner airless sprayer and mist  on the product. My porch is maybe 80' total in length. Takes less than 2 gallons every year. Like I said, porch is now 24 years old and still looks new. Preparation is the key and don't apply too thick.

First Time

I built this deck a year ago.  I waited a couple months for the first application to allow the wood to season, yet protect it for the upcoming winter storms and snow.  I applied a second coat yesterday.  I use a roller and brush to apply.  We receive nearly 300 days of sun per year and we also experience all four seasons.  I am very pleased with the product.  I prefer a clear coat since it accents the warm natural tones of the wood.  It also does not leave any pigments or other residues behind.  Be sure to follow the directions and don't over apply!  Keep a towel handy to wipe off excess oil when needed.   I like the product so much that I am now using it on my utility trailer and grandkids playhouse.

Great Value for Clear Coat Protection

I bought it coat the floor and ramp I built for my shed just the help make the wood last longer.very straight forward I rolled it on dries fast and last.and can't beat that he price.

Works good

I applied this product according to the instructions. my surface was acid stained concrete which is 7 years old. I applied the sealer with a roller and the temperature was approximately 85 degrees. After over 48 hours the sealer was tacky, so much so that you could not walk on the surface. Pressure washing twice with a detergent had a minimum effect. Only after two more cleanings with a degreaser was I able to walk on the surface with still some tacky spots which needed attention. I have used other water based concrete sealers before which have all had very fast drying times and did not remain tacky even after several applications within the same day. Always used Thompson's products in the past and I thought I would revisit the product line. I am sorry I did.

Tackiness

My husband and I spent all last summer building a fence around our 1 acre property. We just non-presure treated lumbar and applied the Thompsons WaterSeal clear wood sealer to our lumbar as directed. We have a large area and ended up buying 3 large 5 gallons of the product which is not cheap. it passed the bead test and everything looked great when we finished the fence last fall. It says the product is supposed to protect the wood for 4-5 years, however we are already having issues only a few months later. We are not going to invent in the money to re-treat the wood since it barely lasted a few months.

Would not recommend for long term protection
