As both a parent and a childrens ministry volunteer, this is exactly the kind of book that Im delighted to share with children. Highlighting Gods characteristics with relatable similes like the wind, an artist, and a fort, the pages of this book teem with love, hope, safety, and strength. Im just so happy that this will be so many childrens introduction to digging deeper into the knowledge and mystery of God. Beyond the words, the illustrations are stunning, with details inviting the reader or hearer into more exploration and understanding.

Exactly the kind of book I want for my children

This book is a must-have for all humans - children or adults! The illustrations are gorgeous and feature children of many colors and physical builds and abilities. "What is God Like" is extraordinary. In a loving collaboration, Matthew Paul Turner has completed the work of his friend Rachel Held Evans, who tragically died several years ago. One of the things I love about Rachel's adult writing is the depth and breadth of her discussion: she considers many different perspectives and faith traditions with an open heart and a curious, discerning mind. Amazingly, the same is true of this picture book. I think that ONLY Rachel Held Evans

Wow! Just, Wow!

Two of the things I loved about the late Rachel Held Evans: she really knew how to tell a story and she wasn't afraid to take on big topics and issues. Both of those traits are beautifully embodied in "What Is God Like," co-authored by Rachel and Matthew Paul Turner. Their words are at once, both powerful and relatable. The beautiful illustrations by Ying Hui Tan are filled with representatives from throughout creation, including different species, races, genders, ages, and abilities. The book's format invites the reader to pause every so often to take in the imagery and put themselves in the story. I found myself needing to read it aloud. Whether the reader is an adult needing to be reminded that they're loved or a child seeking to discover how really God feels about them, this is a book they'll read this book over and over again.

A Very Big Question Beautifully Explained for Very

Such a great book to help kids imagine what God is like! Instead of some of the toxic messages so many are taught about God when young, this book helps kids see and imagine all the wonderful qualities of God. A great foundation, regardless of theological background.

This book is the sweetest. I fell in love with this author after reading When I Pray for You and have bought every single book of his. I came to know about RHE by way of Jen Hatmaker and was completely in awe of her works as well. A beautiful soul taken far too soon. This book is so inclusive and truly speaks to the heart of God. The book we all need

The most beautifully inclusive and loving children's book I've ever read. Matthew Paul Turner honors Rachel Held Evans' legacy by completing "What is God Like?" in such a way that reflects Rachel's admiration for God, her belief that God is love, and her love for God's people. Their gentle words give children permission to ask questions without shame, while reminding them that "But whenever you aren't sure what God is like, think about what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel brave, and what makes you feel loved." Favorite line of all! This is not only a children's book. Buy it for yourself! If you have a difficult relationship with the Church, I think this book will be healing to your soul. If you have a child in your life, this is the description of God you'll want them to grow to know. The illustrations are gorgeous and include children of color, children with disabilities, and give a nod to the LGBTQ community. I will be buying this book as a gift for years to come.
