Great book for beginners!

Although I had bought a previous book by this author which offered the basics to the novice player, this book goes a step beyond. The exercises it has you do manipulating majhong tiles and studying your card really will help you improve your mahjong game. Although, playing is the best way to improve this helps you to learn what power tiles you hold and which you might discard in order to strengthen your hand. The section on the Charleston Pass I found extremely helpful since this part of the game is confusing as well as frustrating in trying to establish what hand to play. The historical facts of this game as it has been handed down through the generations was also interesting. Before you purchase this one, I suggest you read her first book which really gives the basics.

More than Just the Basics With This Book

Helpful tips on strategies, but examples are referred to hands on the 2010 Mah Jongg card which is not included in the book. Since it's 2015 now, there is no way to get the 2010 Mah Jongg card. The usefulness of the book is greatly reduced. Also, there are many typos on the hand representations involving Jokers, e.g., page 29.
