I bought this for my children while they did their work at home.  It worked well as long as I held it.  I could not get the thing to suction to the table.  My youngest son was trying to get it to suction because he had trouble with holding it while sharpening his pencil.  He ended up breaking the front off of the sharpener

I love that this pencil sharpener will work on any student's desk in the classroom.  I had one for several years which finally stopped working after being constantly used, and just ordered two more.  To address a couple negatives in other reviews... 

The suction is not permanent (but is more than sufficient for sharpening several pencils in a row), so it has to be resuctioned by moving the lever which is very easy to do.  However, this means it cannot be suctioned to a wall, as some seem to be trying to do.  

It is also true that the back of the plastic casing will detach sooner or later from the rest of the casing (in fact this was true for one of the ones I ordered).  However, just apply a little gorilla super glue, and it is good as new.  For this reason I probably should give it 4 stars, but it is such an easy fix, and I wanted to balance out the negative reviews.

Favorite pencil sharpener for the classroom

So happy to find this .  My old one is 10 years old and finally started breaking off lead .  Have high expectations for the new one.

First off, and most importantly, THERE IS NO SUCTION! Not on Formica...not on metal... not on glass!  Yes, it will sharpen your pencils provided you have someone hold the sharpener down and you turn the handle!  Completely unacceptable!  X-Acto you disappoint!  And it is not as pictured--my model is FUSCHIA, not the grey and black as pictured!  I furious!  My advice--DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

The vacuum to a tablrt

This is a great sharpener for home use and easy to use. The plastic construction of the body, in my opinion would not hold up well in a classroom setting.   My 7 and 6 year old children can use it easily and lock and unlock it as needed.

Good enough for home use

Great little pencil sharpener, works very nicely. Suction cup does not work so it kinda ruins trying to use it. But if you can mount it somehow it's good

This sharpner is great.  10x better than the electronic sharpeners.  My daughters has all these different color pencils and the electronic sharpner use to just shave one side.  It also made it so pointy the minute you put it to paper tip would break.  This sharpener makes a nice short point and a couple of turns your good to go.

This does a great job and if I had any complaints it would be that it sharpens too well.  The suction is a little picky, the surface has to be absolutely slick.  It doesn't work well on my wood desk but on the granite in the kitchen it's a champ.  But for the price I can walk to the kitchen..
