Soil

I bought this on a whim to help with planting some bulbs and help save my back. I wasn't really expecting much but when I hooked it up to my drill and was able to plant over 100 bulbs in less than an hour! Works great! Get one and save time and work and get that planting done.  Your back will thank you!

I bought to dig holes exactly 2.75" wide. Does the trick perfectly. Item can get stuck in clay or dense soil unless you continue to "pulse" the auger in and out of hole to remove loose soil.

Does the Job!

Used auger to plant 350 plant bulbs in yard. My husband dug the holes and I followed behind and planted. Made a huge job doable in probably 1/3 of the time!  Our backs are very thankful!  All done and auger looks brand new. Went thru tough Georgia clay on our mountain lot with no problem attached to a 3/8 in. drill. Great buy!

Yard butler planting auger makes job easy!

First of all, I was concerned because one reviewer stated it was useless due to the shaft part that inserts into the drill was rounded. I don't know why they said that because that is completely false. This thing is beautifully crafted. I can't imagine any task that it won't power through with ease. Well made, arrived quickly and the price point all make this an excellent purchase. Thank you!!! =)

Great auger

I used it to dig for galvanized posts. I waited 'til ground is sufficiently wet to do it. Don't know how it will do with hard dry soil. It got the job done with only a normal drill. The only heavier duty alternative is to buy a $280 motorized digger. With my application, I only needed 2.75" hole.

Good for digging posts too when ground is wet

My previous soil drills were square at the drill end. This prevented them from twisting in the drill chuck when a dense spot is hit. I have had this drill spin numerous times. One must really chuck the drill firmly.

I use this drill for aerating my compost piles. I have not tried it in soil, however unless the soil is on the light side, sandy or very loamy, I doubt it will work well.

Works acceptably if secured tightly into the drill

As a previous rater did, I had to file 3 equally spaced flats on the end to match the 3 chuck grips and keep the "planter" turning and not slipping. The manufacturer could easily provide the flats. It is not good in compact soil.

Good for planting bulbs or going in loose soil

Does not hold well in a drill cause the top so round and NO grip. It spins inside the drill and you have to keep readjusting the grip on the auger. Poor investment.
