I've been running 20W-50 VR1 with a K&N filter in my 79 Alfa for nearly 3 years now and it is hands down the best oil in its category! My engine is a mild street/track day build and it out-performs every other oil I've used. I run no external oil coolers and it has great oil pressure at +185 engine temps after beating on the car. Keeps the engine nice and healthy and I've never seen any metal flakes during oil changes! This is the only oil I will ever put in my engine!

10/10 Best Racing Oil

Valvoline

I'm using the 10-30 variant in a pair of stock AMC Ambassadors. One is a 67 hardtop. The other is a 68 wagon. Both have AMC's 343 engine. As it's a traditional flat tappet engine I worry about wear in that area. I put lots of miles on both vehicles. I drive them on long trips. They've covered a lot of the United States and Canada. I continue to have no major engine problems. The oil seems to be doing its job.

Not racing but works well for me

We have been using Valvoline VR1 for 15 years now and have to say it has never let us down. We have had motors that have run 40 or more shows on this oil and the bearings look almost brand new. We recommend this oil to every racer that comes in the store.

Been using this great oil for 15 years

I have used Valvoline and VR1 in everything that takes oil. From 70 GTO ,68 Galaxie 92 Mustang all ran hard.I have always used it in my bike before there was a designated oil for mc's. Ducati BSA And Hardly Dangerouson. Never a problem with engine wear. Electrical problems, thats another story.

40 years, never let me down

I use nothing else in my 76 Triumph Bonneville, as it shares engine and primary oil. My bike requires Zinc oil and it works great, as my wet clutch gets gummed up. With regular oils I have a hard time freeing them. With this oil I pull in the clutch lever and kick through one time, next kick fires the engine to life. Highly recommend this oil.

Valvoline VR1 oil

I used to use conventional motor oil in my 1969 SS396. I hated adding a zinc and phosphorus ZDDP additive every time I changed the oil, especially since it had a short effective life. I have no reason to rate this below 5 stars.

GM Muscle Car

I use this in my 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle and it is great the high zinc really helps it out. This is my first experience with Valvoline and will continue to use this in my Beetle.

Great for my classic car

Been using VR1 in old flat tappet engines for years and it's never let me down because it has EVERYTHING these engines need. I currently use it in my 74 F100 with a 360 FE.

Great for older flat tappet engines!

I've used vr1 racing oil for years. I recently purchased 12 quarts in March and when I recently checked the website I noticed that the zinc content has been lowered from 1400 ppm to 1100 ppm. I'm concerned that this is no longer safe for flat tappet camshaft. I've reached out to Valvoline with no response. Total crickets. I will be looking for a different product.
