Rated 5 out of 5 by Mary from Really Cool Drone for Kids and Parents I received the Air Hogs Helix X4 Quad copter through Bzz Agent for a campaign. I have two boys age 14 and 11 and they didn't know it was coming so it was a big surprise when it arrived in the mail. Both boys are really good with electronic gadgets and thought that having a drone was the coolest thing ever. They immediately tore open the box and quickly read the instructions and were ready to go until they realized they had to wait until the battery charged (which takes a long time especially for kids anxious to play with a new toy - about 2 hours). I think it would be a good idea to have two batteries this way you can still use the Copter while the other battery is charging. Once it was charged the boys started by flying it inside. It is very light weight and as they crashed it into walls and furniture I thought for sure it was going to be broken in the first 15 minutes. As it is a higher priced item I was nervous they were too rough with it and it wouldn't last long. I was wrong it is very durable and endured a lot of crash landings. The camera is really of great quality. We could play back on my computer and see right away what we took pictures of. The battery doesn't last long - seemed only like 10 minutes before we had to recharge. With both boys fighting to play with the drone we wish the battery would last longer or have a second battery. When the boys played with it outside it flew well as long as the weather was calm any wind seemed to make it harder to control. All in all my kids love it!!! They show all their friends when they come over to our house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sambyflyer from Great little drone I received the Air Hogs Helix video Quad Copter as part of a bzzagent campain free of charge to review. My 5year old son had no problem figuring out the controls and this quickly became his favorite toy. Its very light weight so when the wind picks up it makes it hard to control and keep it flying but my son thought it was funny when it came crashing down. Several falls and it didnt break at all. I am surprised at the durability of this drone for the cost i wasnt expecting it to hold up so well. My son and husband had a blast makeing videos and take pictures inside and outside of the house. Mothers beware, husbands find this item to be a riot inside the house bzzing around moms head shooting pics from above. pros: Easy to control and fly. picture takeing was super easy video is great for price point easy to upload to computer seems well made for being light weight(several crashes and it didnt break) cons: light weight so if there is wind forget flying it. battery life is 10-15 mins if that Over all this is a great product, maybe alittle over priced since the target audience is children. Our house gives it a 4 stars and will continue to play with it inside and outside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mwtrbg from Great fun for everyone After seeing the prices of other quad copters with cameras I was not expecting too much from this little guy...boy was I surprised! First of all, getting everything set up out of the box was a breeze. Within minutes I had both my kids fighting with my husband over who was going to get to fly it first. After about 30 minutes for the initial charge it was my husband who first got to pilot the Helix X4 around the house followed quickly by the 10 and 8 year olds. There was a quick learning process to get the hang of the controls but then everyone was flying it around like a pro. The Helix X4 has two settings; one for novice flyers and one for advanced. It turns out that we had it set for advanced right out of the box but everyone was still able to quickly master the controls. The Helix X4 hovered like a champ and took great pictures while hovering. The video is awesome and to see the it in action really is something special. The only downside is that the memory card is embedded inside the unit which makes you have to connect it to a computer to retrieve your pictures and video. I tried doing this after flying all around until the battery was completely dead and thought there was something wrong because it would not recognize the device. It turns out that the Helix X4 needs to have enough charge to stay powered on while trying to retrieve your data otherwise it will disconnect. I really look forward to all of the possibilities that this little copter has opened up. I hope to use it to record our Christmas lights display from a whole new angle. And for the price of under $100 you really can't beat it. I was fortunate enough to receive this Helix X4 from BzzAgent in exchange for my honest review and I have to honestly say that there will most likely be more coming into our house and the neighbors' houses this Christmas.

Rated 3 out of 5 by budletsmom from Great for beginners Please note that this product was received free from BzzAgent in return for an honest review. The packaging has a nice appearance and the product is clearly displayed so you understand what you are getting if you purchase this in a store. The typical "batteries not included" message was hard to see on the box so beware that you'll need 3 AA batteries for the radio controller. On opening the box, the Helix Video Drone was relatively easy to unpack compared to many other toys of similar caliber. There were no twisted wires to deal with which is a big plus these kinds of products! There were 3 pieces of twine and 1 twist tie to negotiate, the rest was tape. Unboxing was easy. Regarding the product look and feel, the body of the drone is a couple of pieces of foam glued together with a few plastic supports and the various electronics embedded inside. This is obviously for cost and weight reasons, but the downside is that this doesn't appear to be repairable if something happens to it from an excessive crash. The controller is standard fare, although my son thought that there were pieces missing as the ends of the control sticks have threaded holes that would appear to accept some type of screw-in ends. Before using the drone, you'll need to charge it. This was the first real issue as it's difficult to get the supplied USB cable inserted into the drone without a lot of discomfort. I had to notably compress the surrounding foam in order to make the connection. I'm not sure if this is a design or manufacturing issue, but it's something that Air Hogs team should address. The instructions didn't estimate how long a charge would take. To me this is a big omission as we were completely sidelined until the charge was complete and we didn't know if we should expect minutes or hours. We ended up putting this off to the side for a while because of this. Another reason for putting it aside for a while is the high pitched pulsing hiss that comes from the product while charging. It sounds like an inductor hiss but I'm not sure. This is something else that the Air Hogs team should look at as I don't want to charge this in a quiet room if I'm next to it. After coming back to the drone much later (no idea how long the charging took) we tried it out in the backyard. The first thing I noticed is that this doesn't like any sort of a breeze. It's just too light to be able to cope with it. When the air is still this isn't any harder to fly than some of the other toy drones that I've tried. However, it is lacking trim controls for anything except rotation so there's a definite learning curve on hovering, etc. This brings me to the camera. There are two buttons on the radio controller to activate stills or movies. We expected to have several movies and still from the first outing but it wasn't meant to be. In a word, the embedded micro SD card drive is "finicky." I was getting USB mass storage drive mounting errors on two different computers with two different operating systems. and was unable to get anything off the drone. Later, after attempting to get troubleshooting online and finding none at the time of this review, I got the drive to surprisingly work after several insertions/ejects of the micro SD card. Unfortunately, after getting the drive/card to mount, there was no data on the card. Oh well... I was able to quickly take some other pics/videos to confirm that it was now working. Regarding image quality, this is obviously for casual fun. The images/video are only 640x480 and not highly detailed. You also need a lot of light for a decent picture. Indoors, everything was very grainy. It reminds me of the earliest digital or cell phone cameras. Overall 3/5 stars for the Air Hogs Helix Video Drone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Gettum before They're Gone I received from BZZAGENT and they asked me to review honestly. I did. Hold on and get ready to take off! Well figuratively. The Air Hogs Helix Quad Video will give you a birds-eye-view of all around you. This pint size quad packs plenty of power. Its small durable made of a hard styrofoam material that’s takes a beating. Because I’m new to the quad flying copters I’ve had plenty of opportunity to test the shatter like proof frame. Walls have been no match. As of this writing the Air Hogs is still alive and working great. So don’t be afraid to test your quad as flying into objects should be little concern. In fact in the beginning you will hit lots of things. Mostly walls, lamps, tables or whatever may be around. I had some difficulty flying in the beginning. It took about five charges before I got proficient, but each time getting better. But, its fun learning, so don’t fret. Yes about five charges. As everyone has said the charging and fly time are not equal. But they never are, so I cannot complain. Take pictures of your dog, cat from above. Watch them jump and play. The video will capture it all. Check out what’s on your roof (you may find that long last ball), capture moments from a different perspective. The video gives you this chance. And the video is not bad. It’s meant to be fun and different and Air Hogs delivers. Don’t worry that it’s not 4k. Yes I recommend this toy. Its meant for short bursts of fun and keeps you wanting more. The durability will give you plenty of opportunities. Get it while you can.
