Has a smooth consistency in mac and cheese.

I've eaten many different cheddar cheeses and believe there's no such thing as a 'bad' one.  But from my vast experience I feel safe to say that Armstrong brand old cheddar cheese is The Best, bar none.  It has a stronger flavour than other brands which means that, for example, a grilled cheese sandwich is more satisfying.  A cheese sauce made with Armstrong is more flavourful.

My favourite cheese!

It seems impossible to find cheddar in Canada as sharp as that in Britain, but this tries and is quite pleasant.

Decent

I used to buy this fairly regularly in-store at Walmart at the 450 g size for $4 so this shrinkflated package seems to be the permanent new normal. It's barely noticably flavoured more than their Medium cheese so calling this Old is a stretch. It's a medium-okay grocery store cheese product for slicing over your eggs in an omelette or making a quick cheese and whatever sandwich. It's priced itself into the range of actually good aged deli cheese though so I only order it rarely if in a hurry.

Armstrong "Old" Cheddar Cheese

Armstrong seems to changed its flavour profile. I found the cheese lacking character and was gummy. The piece I had had no cheddar notes whatsoever. I've had some really good Armstrong cheddar at almost $9 for a 400g block it was disappointing

Expensive and mediocre

What has happened to Armstrong Cheddar Cheese? You don't see extra old anymore in any stores and the old tastes like mild and the texture is so soft and creamy like processed cheese it's gross! It goes mouldy in no time after opening too! Armstrong Extra Old was the only cheese I would buy for my family for the past 30 years, that was the last time I'm ever purchasing Armstrong ever again.  What happened to nice sharp Cheddar Cheese? It's supposed to crumble not bend in half without cracking! Old is expected to have some sharpness to it.  This is Canada guys! 
I pay for quality!  So saddened that 30 years of a family staple has gone down the tubes.

Old cheddar is like mild soft processed cheese.
