Instructions can be clear, but pace and hardware quality vary.

We have had this pergola for about four days.  We spent the first two days applying a couple coats of weatherproofing stain.  The last two days we assembled the pergola and it was extremely easy to follow the instructions and it looks beautiful.  It fits perfectly in the area we chose to place it.  Definitely would recommend this product!!

I am in love with everything this pergola kit has to offer. I live in the high desert of southern california where the winds are high so we decided to drill it in to our preexisting concrete. 

This makes a great addition to our lake front backyard as I sit here each evening to sip on my tea and enjoy my evenings sitting on the swing. Can't wait for my jasmine

This is our second purchase. Found short cuts the second time around. Husband and I put together in about 7 hours. 3 people would have been helpful. 2 people, you will take many breaks. Ha! Very nice...

Recommend but 3 people needed.

easy to build, good straight Lumber and easy to follow assembly instructions. everything was pre drilled and it all aligned correctly. The wrenches are a little short handled for the amount of torque that has to be put on the bolts. If you have a ratchet set or impact it is very easy to assemble. Over all a very good product for the price.

Our first Pergola

I'm extremely pleased with these people and their pergola products after two purchases, a 12x10 and a 14x10 Summerville model.
Pros- Shipping is fast and efficient.  About 10 days.
-Customer service is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.
-The products are engineered smartly, the manuals are well written with drawings.  
-The package included two star Allen wrench tools and driver bits for the bolts. Very nice. 
-The basic stain on the wood looks good when assembled.
-Damaged and scratched parts were replaced via Fedex in a week.

Cons- The wood is delicate and subject to damage from shipping.  Our first order arrived on a  severely damaged pallet. They replaced 15 parts within a week.  Better packaging is advisable.  Replacement parts and the Summerville model arrived undamaged.
-Must provide your own concrete drill bit and socket driver to fit the concrete screws. 
-The kits are only available in a couple of sizes and any modifications are not warranted.
-The kits cannot be adjusted to compensate for uneven terrain greater than about 1".  The holes become difficult to align.
-The Summerville model was stained gray and it took two coats of redwood stain to try to match the other cedar color model.  
Notes:
Customer service was extremely helpful and courteous.  Each shipment arrived ahead of expectations with only one parts mistake. 
-I believe that this is called Chinese White Cedar which has been sanded smooth and stained with an attractive stain.
-Reading the instructions thoroughly with some observations about parts orientation will save a lot of headache.  All parts become intuitive and easyto put together as long as it is on level ground.  

The Summerville model is designed slightly differently than the regular 12x10 model and a little more difficult to orient and assemble the braces sections. One person can assemble each of the sections separately by roping them to external braces to keep them from falling over, then loosely bolting sections together.  An uneven slab will make hole alignment difficult.  The long bolts or the barrel nuts need to be longer.
-Align everything loosely in the footers, then mark, drill, and fasten footers.  Then align vertically again.  Be sure to rest slotted joists in place at both ends during these steps to insure that everything is still square at the top, and start tightening everything from the top of the posts down using a vertical level.  Drill and tighten the braces last to maintain vertical positioning. That way, if you still have a slight lean because of an unlevel slab, as I did, you can use the braces to push the post back straight before screwing them down. 
-The stain of the Summerville gray model didn't match my original purchase and matching stains was difficult.  The Summerville model had to be stained twice with a redwood stain but still isn't an exact match.

Pleased with how both pergolas turned out.

Very nice pergola! Had to stain and seal it with Thompson Water Seal for added protection and longevity. Something to consider when assembling this pergola is, if you dont plan on bolting this into the ground, it is best that you put in the square cap for the post in the beginning rahter than waiting when everything is assembled. It will make your life a lot easier! (You and other helper will have to lift the entire pergola to mount the square cap) The instruction has this as the very last step! Once you are nearing the completion of the assembly, youll find that some of the predrilled holes wont line up properly, therefore, bolts and nuts are hard to put together. I had to drill a larger hole through some of the woods to be able to lock the bolt and nut together. A minor issue that can be fixed easily. Although some of the woods are warped, the surfaces are very smooth and had no cracks. The post is very sturdy. My 170lbs self can do pull-ups (not recommended to do, but I had to test the strength of the post). Lol. Overall im very pleased! The size is a perfect fit in my patio. If you are a tall person, this pergola has about 6feet 7inches in clearance. Something to keep in mind. I highly suggest this pergola for a patio that needs a little bit of beautification. Add some lovely string lights and hanging flowers, you will have everyone fall in love with it. It made the ambience in my patio very relaxing and peaceful.

This description implies quality construction materials, which they are definitely NOT. Recieved this product and found that the main support beams that should be the strongest part of the structure were HOLLOW and short/could not be sunk into concrete.
