This condensed version of the original is great for beginners! Instead of using the cards (that are littered on the floor when your toddler moves on) it uses a spinner. This was easier for my 3 year old to use and takes up less space.

The overall look of the game and characters is a little girly, not a problem for me (mother of 2 girls) but might be disappointing for others.

I remember the original Candy land game so this is different, but still good......different playing pieces too.

I bought this for my granddaughter and she loves it.

The game used to have cards to pull from a deck, gingerbread-shaped playing pieces, and a board that was interesting but not cluttered or overwhelming. The new game is flashy and aggressive in appearance, with every space on it filled with hyper-modern cartoon characters that are of a kind with what kids see everywhere now, I suppose. It uses a spinner that's hard to hold down while spinning, instead of cards, and the game pieces are odd character shapes with stick-on images that were somewhat hard to identify. My grown daughter and I much preferred the older versions of the game for their simplicity and whimsy. This modern version feels over-stimulating, as so much of children's programming is now, I suppose. My 6 year old granddaughter seemed to enjoy the game, however, so I'd say that it is probably fine for the kids of today. It generally plays about the same as it always did. I do wish, however, that they'd tone it down some - the cluttered board does not add to the game's play value, it just adds to the general stress of the times.

So - a good game for young children, as it always was, easy to play, just not the game you may remember, visually.

Not what it used to be, but still fun.

This is not the same quality game, I remember form my youth. The board game from my youth, was nice in size, the squares were big enough to fit each piece, there were cards to draw, where the child did not have to question what space or color they got, and the pieces were solid, fit on the board space, without toppling over.
This updated version of the board game is extremely busy, confusing and cluttered!! The spaces, are too small, and do not fit the game piece properly. The game pieces seem top heavy and topple over all the time. My child, often times, fights and cries, as it is often times hard to tell what color she spun on the spinner. I am sorry that I bought this game, because it is not the same quality I expect from Hasbro!!!

Good first game, BUT....NOT what it used to be!!!!

I was expecting the classic Candy Land game to give to my nephew. Over the years Candyland has been updated to be more gender neutral with boys and girls in the illustrations. This one has been "updated" so that all the characters are super girly. The board and game pieces are really cheap looking and the game is played totally differently with a spinner instead of the traditional cards.
