Catan Family Edition Board Game is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Family Fun This is such a fun game to play for kids and adults. This family board is great with my toddler lurking about and she can't tear apart the board. The tiles have two different sides so you can play different board set ups. The tiles are in groups of about 4 unlike the original ($50) Catan that is a bunch of individual tiles. So much fun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, fun game for friends and family! I bought this version of the game because it was quite a great deal cheaper than the expensive version and while it looks different and is a little smaller, everything else is the same. I was afraid it would be different than the expensive version in how to play but it's not, I would recommend it to anyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Catan Family Edition, economy version The family edition is the complete game, but the bargain version. It's slightly smaller, not expandable with low budget components. The board is two sided, giving a different play setup. The "Settlers of Catan" version is expandable to 5-6 players, has the look and feel of an upgrade and has an unlimited array of setup options.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the real game I thought this was the actual Settlers of Catan normal version for a discount price. Don't make the same mistake I did. The game board is not customizable in any way, so you're stuck with two static versions to choose from for every game. All the materials are inferior to the original, e.g. plastic instead of wood, flimsy cardboard, etc. I guess I should have known that a less expensive version at Walmart would not have been the same thing as they sell at the local comics shop, but there should be a warning label on this edition saying something like: Warning! Cheap imitation knock-off! Do not purchase if you actually want to play the game! Catan is super fun, and you could get a few games out of this before the resource patterns become obvious, but if you really want to play the game for an extended period of time or with any seriousness, get the original version.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Family Edition is not like regular set up This is not like the regular game in that the tiles can't be rearranged. The tiles are stuck together in chunks, and the number circles are not moveable either, so the board only has a couple ways it can be rearranged (the chunks of tiles can be flipped over). Maybe it says all this in the description, and I just should have read it better. I can see how it could be family friendly because there aren't as many pieces to loose and the set up is easier, but I just wanted the regular game, and wish I would have known this was different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great board game for anyone. This is a great starter game to get the whole family interested in board games. I played a few games with my family and all of them enjoyed it very much. Please keep in mind, that this is the cheaper version and doesn't come with as much as the full set. This version, along with the Family Edition is a cheaper alternative to individuals who wish to try out the Catan series before buying the full game. If you want the best experience, buy the Settlers of Catan edition, which you can only purchase at specialty shops or the official website for about $42.00. I highly recommend purchasing this or the full Settlers of Catan version of the game as it is quite fun, easy to learn and a great gateway game to get your friends and family into board gaming! Have fun!
