Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits in my backpack easily. This is a neat little mess kit that fits in my backpack easily. I do wish it had a nonstick coating, but it's a good value anyway.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not even worth the low price I see quite a few people with romanticized opinions of kits similar to this from their Boy Scout days. I doubt many of them have actually tried to cook a camp meal with it. I attempted to do so the other day. A few things: 1) None of the containers really seems to work as something to cook in. The frying pan is lightweight - which is fine except that because of the length of the handle its handle weight actually keeps the pan from lying flat on the burner. You need something pretty dense in a pan that small to weight it down enough to keep that from happening. 2) None of the other containers is large enough to heat up enough water for even a plus-sized cup of noodles. The capacities are smaller than you think. Also, the pan with the loop handle (like you'd find on a bucket) isn't centered on the handle good enough. I heated some water in it, lifted it off the burner by the handle, and instantly the water all shifted to one side, spilling over the burner and adjacent surface. Thank God I wasn't heating up oil. The fry pan handle is held there by a butterfly nut that does not tighten up enough for you to be able to trust that it won't bend at the nut if you try to lift the fry pan by the handle. 3) It doesn't pack well. Because of the design of the components nesting inside of the fry pan/lid, the lid never really completely rests on top of the fry pan. Then, when you try to secure the kit, the jointed fry pan handle doesn't hold things together unless positioned perfectly across the lid. That would be fine if the butterfly nut could tighten enough to basically clamp everything down, which it doesn't. The handle still moves around and your kit will open up. So, we have a camp mess kit that you can't cook in and that doesn't pack up well. What's left? This might work fine as a substitute for plates, bowls, etc., when dished something by someone else, but it falls way short as far as tools to actually prepare a meal.
