Ratings & Reviews+

Taylor Digital Instant Read Black Thermometer is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Precise, but slow and easily broken I've used this thermometer for a few weeks now. Here are my thoughts: Pros: It it very precise, giving readings to the nearest 0.1 degree C in the range of temperatures I use (30-50 C, for bread and cheese making). In the higher temperature range, it still has 0.5 C precision. It is also relatively inexpensive for a digital thermometer. Cons: Slow to get a reading (6-10 seconds is typical). They advertise this as an "instant read" digital thermometer, but it is NOT. This was a source of frustration from the start, and I considered returning the unit. I would have made a video of this, but the unit is broken now. Which leads to the other problem, durability: as I was pulling the unit out of a batch of bread dough, the top cover came apart, breaking the soldering on one of the tiny wires inside (see photo). The temperature probe came loose on the inside of the steel spike. The unit is now non-functionnal, and I am returning it for refund today.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Accurate. Good price. True, that the head does come off easily. But, it snaps back on, and mine still works well. Used it for making cheese, yogurt etc. and it reads accurately, even after being accidentally dropped completely into boiling water and being submerged for several seconds. I haven't tried other brands, so I can't speak as to how slow or fast the reading is comparatively. I am on my second one, as the first one got dropped too many times. For the price, I'm happy with it and found it worth it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from nice compact design ive bought 2 of these now they work great, give quick readings, but the head of the unit separates quite easily from the base and the 2 small wires in side break when this happens rendering the unit useless

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total garbage! Waste of money! Obviously this was designed to last just long enough that you can't return it for a refund. Two paper thin wires are all that hold this together. This is garbage, its landfill that is on a store shelf.
