Chipper morning

We bought this chipper are about a month ago, and we are very happy with it. One that was a little confusing was how to stat it. After reading the starting procedure in the Kohler engine manual, it was very easy to start. This chipper works great!

Really chips the wood

Bought this a few months ago, at first it was a real challenge to get started, it was frustrating. However after learning the trick to start this machine it was worth every penny I spent on it. Trick is this Isn't your normal one pull recoil start and release machine you have to keep pulling it several times to build up the momentum in the drum. Once this happens it starts right up and runs like a champ.

Excellent Machine

I'm very happy with this unit.  I've put close to 3" diameter through it.  It's important to control the intake when feeding the bigger stuff.  The kill button needs to be in an easily accessible location, but I've accidentally hit it a few times when feeding the chute.  I have a concern, though.  On the left side of the chipper there's a grease fitting for the chipper bearing, and it's not mentioned anywhere (in the material that came with my unit.)  It's shown in the parts breakdown (I think #25), but in the parts ref column, the numbers skip from 22 to 26.  I think that this is a major concern that needs to be addressed.

Works as advertised, yes it is difficult to start cold. First few starts were harder. Eats tree branches with ease.

Yup, it chips

Bought the OPC 524 and used it about 2-1/2 hours today. VERY happy with this machine. Don't let the 7 HP engine fool you, it ran better that a 14 HP chipper a friend has. 3 1/2" is pushing its limits..but usually anything this size and up I keep for the fire pit. Would have rated a 5 but it can be hard to start when the engine is cold. Takes a little practice to get the correct method  down pat. Be nice if there was a clutch on the engine pulley or a mechanism to engage the belts to make cold starts easier. Overall I don't believe you could find a better 4" size wood chipper for the same cost.

Pretty good build quality and pleased with performance

Shipped quickly, easy to put together,you can easily move around by hand, used it for 3 hrs straight with no issues would have given 5 stars but it has to be the hardest thing I have ever owned to start if you have any elbow or shoulder problems look at different model.

4 inch 7hp chipper

I bought this a few months ago, spent three days trying to get it started, finally got it started once and it worked great. Now can't get it started again. Engine doesnt start for love or money, probably need to replace the engine with one with an electric start
