Ratings & Reviews+

Duracell 4000 Ion Speed Rechargeable Battery Charger is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I found this charger good. My old batteries were bad and so while charging the red LED was blinking. The manual was silent on this. But when I asked a question on this, I got a prompt reply. With good batteries, it works perfect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Duracell charger This charger advertises that It recharges any rechargeable AA or AAA NiMH batteries from any brand, this is not true. I have tried 3 other brands of rechargeable batteries to find that it will not charge them, it will not recognize the off brand (not Duracell) batteries. Charging a Duracell battery, it works great. I would not recommend this charger unless you are charging Duracell only batteries.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only able to charge in pairs! NiMH charger technology has been out for a long time. There is no reason why a charger nowadays should require two batteries on the same bank to function. If you have a device that uses an odd number of batteries then you're out of luck if you want to get it back in service quickly. I was told by the manufacturer that I should basically wait until I had another dead battery so I could pair it up on the charger to make it function. Eneloop chargers are able to charge four batteries individually at the same price point. I grabbed this out of convenience because I was already at Walmart doing some other shopping. My mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This unit pays for itself in a month or two! I recently purchased an Energizer LED flashlight for its bright light output and what I thought would be increased battery life. I was disappointed at first because it ate through regular batteries just as fast, if not faster, than a standard tungsten-filament flashlight. After a LOT of research into how most LED flashlights operate, and my own electronics background, I discovered the solution: NiMH rechargeable batteries! Rechargeable batteries are not perfect for every device, since they have a rapid discharge from 1.5-ish volts to their nominal 1.2-ish volts, some devices may act as if the batteries have died early. It is important to note that many devices WILL function properly at the 1.2 volt range, and the 2500 mAh batteries included will put out that 1.2 volts for an impressive length of time. The AA and AAA batteries enclosed are pre-charged, so you can use them right out of the packaging. I loaded the AAs into the flashlight, and I have gotten slightly more than twice the use out of the rechargeables as I did out of all the standard batteries available on the shelf at Walmart - and yes, I have tried every brand and every variety except for lithium types. I used to get anywhere between 2-10 days out of a set of batteries; now I get 14-18 days with these rechargables. The AAA batteries I loaded into a remote control for my TV, and they will probably self-discharge before they run dead due to use. The charger, when not in use, folds up compactly and is slightly smaller than the average digital camera. When fully unfolded, it takes up a bit more space, and the blades of the wall plug portion snap into place securely with a nice solid click. An important thing for customers to note: charge times will vary depending upon the mAh rating of the batteries used. A higher mAh rating takes longer to charge, and will maintain that 1.2 volt "sweet spot" for a longer duration. When buying additional batteries, you may want to splurge for the higher mAh ratings - read your labels and make an informed decision! I have not experienced issues with charging other brand batteries as other reviewers have stated. I not only use the Duracells that came included, but I also use Energizer Recharge Power Plus batteries. Yes, you need to recharge them in pairs, this should not surprise anyone since it has been a standard since the NiCD batteries of the 1980s. Having single-cell charging capabilities takes more electronic components and can be found on more expensive charging stations. Perhaps there is a failing battery, or an incorrect battery being used (this charger is for NiMH-type batteries ONLY) that caused the problems others have noted, or possibly a defective charger or mixed mAh rating in the pair being charged. FROM THE USER GUIDE: "Notes & Usage Tips #3: Batteries that are new or have been stored for an extended period may need to be charged and used 2-3 times before optimal charge performance is achieved." You may want to keep that in mind if your first use is unsatisfactory. All that being said, this unit has paid for itself in a month or two! I am very pleased with the money I am saving, not to mention the reduction of spent batteries entering our landfills. I have NOT received any incentive to write a review on this product. I paid full retail price and am writing this review voluntarily.
