This thermostat has a very rich set of options in its installation menu.  The ones I used were:
Temperature on/off threshold
Minimum run time
Extended fan run time after furnace/AC shuts off

It also lets you set as many schedules as you want in a given day as long as they are 30 minutes long.

It does a great job of allowing you to decide if you want to use the automatic features or disable them and set it up the way you want.

All the low level settings I wanted

Does a great job meeting all our needs. We have it at our second home/cottage, and set up its temperature alerts. It saved us one winter when it alerted us about low temperatures in the house, and we were able to get the faulty furnace repaired before any plumbing pipes got frozen and ruptured. Easy voice control with Alexa. The phone app is great and lets us warm the cottage up in the winter or cool it down in the summer before we get there.

Awesome thermostat!

I bought this product because my thermostat was located in direct sunlight, causing false temperature for the rest of the house.  I installed with a sensor in my living room.  Installation and instructions were clear and simple to follow.

Ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My home thermostats are decades old, so it was a joy to test the new ecobee “essential” smart thermostat. I appreciated the accompanying universal trim (included in my package, but unsure if it's sold separately or included with the thermostat), since the existing hole was substantially larger than the ecobee screen itself. The ecobee app is intuitive and aesthetically pleasing to use - no notes! So easy to establish a baseline temp routine (eg 68F from 8am-8pm weekdays, 11am-9pm weekends, 64F the rest of the time) and one-off exceptions, like if I'll be on vacation and just want a 50F baseline for that week.

Very nice

The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Essential is easy to install and get up and running, the app walks you through nearly everything.  I did find that the Automatic Staging options mask many configuration settings (like the temp threshold) that I would like to have access to, but others may not require that.  I did find the Alexa interface very limited - all you can do via voice command or routine is set a temporary temperature hold

Great out of the box features, some tradeoffs

I've had the product a month now. I installed it myself and the installation instructions in the app were great. I have the Smart Thermostat Enhanced in a different house and thought this would be a good choice. While it does what it is supposed to do, the smaller screen makes it harder to make changes. Things that on on the main screen in my Enhanced are on a secondary screen in the Essential and harder to find. Also I find the the Essential lets the temperature vary much more than the Enhanced does. It does give me the remote access that I really wanted.

It does the job, but not the best of the Ecobee

I could not get my new Ecobee Essential Thermostat to work with Google Assistant so I reached out to Ecobee.  Customer Support told me the thermostat does NOT work with Google Assistant--in spite of advertising on Walmart that says it does.  Disappointed but the work needed to return it given our home location is just too much.

Disappointed

Not the easiest to install .. call to the help desk quickly took care of that. The main complaint I have is there is no operator's manual available. None came with the unit and none is available to download. Frequently referred to the operator's manual on my previous thermostat when I needed to make a change and could always find the answer .... now will have stop and make a call. When before I could usually find the answer in the manual. I will mention this issue to anyone who might ask me about 'how I like my new thermostat'.

Good Product ..... BUT

Smart thermostats are a waste of time and energy. For minimal benefit (savings is nonsense), you get to control it with your phone. That's about it. In return, you'll restart it monthly (I have 2) for no reason, it will randomly disconnect from your wi-fi, your sensors will loose connections, again randomly, and their batteries will need to be changed 3-4 times a year. The old cheep manual thermostats work perfect, set 'em and walk away. Smart thermostats are a reminder of a bad decision I'm stuck with.
