Ratings & Reviews+

Coghlan's Flint Striker is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ferro Rod with a Bad Striker I had to laugh out loud when I read the negative reviews. No spark, doesn't work etc. I also bought this and couldn't get it to spark. After some time checking other reviews I finally figured out that the sheet metal STRIKER is horrible. Really horrible. Almost useless. Throw it away. I had another fire steel arrive that had a nice striker. After spending 5 minutes on the Coghlans Fire steel removing the black coating (important) and using the other striker the Sparks started flying. Just get yourself a good striker and it will perform as well as the others. So to me, worth $5 bucks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3.5 Stars!!! This is a decent firesteel. I'm sure there are better firesteels out there, but guess what, they are not under $5. I bought 2. Pros: -Gives pretty good sparks. -Good length for striking. -Very thick and will last a very very long time (good deal for under $5) Cons: -The striker that comes with it is a joke (not sharp at all). -The firesteel and its handle are loose (very common with this brand, many have had the same issue) All-in-all...Change the striker with a sharper and sturdier one, RE-epoxy the firesteel with its handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works better than expected, good price Great little survival tool. Would need to carry cotton or some other dry tinder in the field.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage! Don't waste your money on this one. I just got mine 15 minutes ago. I scraped off all the black paint on the rod like it says. I find it hurts my hand. This is the crappiest fire striking rod I have ever seen. I own a variety of 6. All the rest right away boom work first strike. This one takes 5-6x and very little spark with the blade that comes with it. The blade to strike it is terrible. Don't waste your money on this one. I have to use a real knife and it will spark a bit after 3x with real knife on it. I'm taking this back, as I may as well throw it out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money. Spark is so small you need lighter fluid to start cotton on fire. Should be taken off the shelves! Two wet sticks have a better chance of starting a fire. Extremely disappointed in this product.
