Description & Features+

The eTrex 20 takes one of the most popular and reliable GPS handhelds and makes it better. Redesigned ergonomics, an easier-to-use interface, paperless geocaching and expanded mapping capabilities add up to serious improvements for an already legendary GPS handheld. eTrex 20 is versatile, it's tough and it’s built to handle whatever Mother Nature can dish out – and more. The eTrex 20 is designed for use on ATV’s, bicycles, in boats, as a handheld or in your car. Use the auto mount City Navigator NT® maps for turn-by-turn driving directions, or the rugged mount for your motorcycle or ATV. Wherever you think you might take eTrex, it has the mapping and mounts to get you there. The new eTrex series is the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to “lock on” to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone. With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix® satellite prediction, eTrex locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. Take charge of your next adventure with BaseCamp™, software to view and organize your maps, waypoints, routes, and tracks and send them to your Garmin device. This free trip-planning software displays topgraphic map data in 2-D or 3-D on your computer screen, including contour lines and elevation profiles. It also can transfer an unlimited amount of satellite images when paired with a BirdsEye Satellite Imagery subscription as well as geotag photos, or associate them with specific waypoints.

Garmin eTrex 20 is rated NaN out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Works great! I use it for Geocaching and it works great. I'm able to find them a lot faster. I didn't realize it when I bought it but you can't use it for driving. It gives a birds eye view of how to get somewhere. Not complaining, just letting others know. This is my first handheld. Easy to learn the system. Still use my phone for turn by turn directions. Still haven't had to replace the batteries, which surprised me. Able to mark waypoints so I can always find my way back to my car on those long hikes. Highly recommend this gps. Especially if you go in areas that don't have cell service. Also tracks where you go so you can see where all you went, how many miles, how fast you where going, and how long. Great handheld at a great price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from About all you need! I purchased this unit as a basic GPS for hiking, geocaching and marking fishing hot spots on the local lake. While there are cheaper Garmin units, I selected the eTrex 20 because it can be upgraded with the various maps available from Garmin thus making it far more versatile than Garmin units costing less. This GPS comes only with the Worldwide DEM Basemap. As the name implies, this map covers a very large area, but does not offer a great deal of detail, such as unpaved roads, etc. You will definitely have to upgrade maps if you want turn-by-turn driving instructions in your car, or shoreline details on the lake. The unit is loaded with features; far more than I knew when I order it. Navigating through the menus is quit easy and intuitive. I really like the fact that the full instruction manual is loaded in the GPS's software, so downloading the file to your computer is a snap using the provided cable. Small, lightweight, has a compass and provides elevation. A slick unit for the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kayak river camping The eTrex 20 works great for my purposes. Using google and bing maps, I manually entered the way points on the river for where we planned to camp and other landmarks. The proximity alarm worked as advertised and we never missed the sandbar where we planned to camp. The unit has a very basic map installed, but when traveling downstream on a river, the compass is useless, getting lost is just about impossible. I'm thinking about purchasing a sim card with detailed maps, but haven't made up my mind. I was able to save waypoints with a brief description of interesting points along the trip. Batteries lasted for the entire trip of 3 days. Satellite acquisition time was acceptable. There are other GPS units with more bells and whistles, but for an inexpensive unit that shows where you are, where your going and where you've been, this one is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We purchased this portable GPS to use for geocaching and it has definitely met our needs. There are MANY other uses for these kinds of units and being an avid outdoors person it will come in handy for fishing and hunting as well. I looked at other portable GPS systems, read lots of reviews on them and this particular one. For the money we were wanting to spend, or not spend, and all the features this one has we decided on this one and have not regretted one moment of our purchase. I also think the ease of use is a plus. We geocache at least twice week now. I would recommend this GPS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garmin eTrek-20 Not much to say EXCEPT I did read the reviews and the documentation contained in the package is to get you up and running with little or no explanation on how to "use" the GPS. Works as advertised. Wal-Mart is a lot faster, in getting it to me, then other vendors, a LOT faster...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Accurate and can take abuse I use the eTrex 20 primarily for backcountry skiing and mountain biking and needless to say it doesn't get pampered. Not only has is come away unscathed after miles of abuse, it has also been impressive with it's accuracy and ability to keep a signal in places my prior GPS units have not (even in blasting snowstorms). There may be fancier units on the market (i.e. more expensive), but this little device is well worth the money. Remember to always back yourself up with a compass...batteries are designed to run out.
