Ratings & Reviews+

Gold's Gym Air Cycle is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design Their are some good things about this exercise bike but the design of the moving arms is very flawed. The problem is that the arms are attached to pedals. Why is this a problem you ask, well the resistance of pedaling is so minimal that the only way to get your heart rate up high enough to be meaningful you have to pedal very fast. Why is that a problem you ask, well that means the handle bars move back and forth really fast. So fast that you just can't keep up. Their is no option to adjust the resistance level so you wouldn't have to pedal so fast. You might as well get the $80 exercise bike. Also the handle bars are 2 piece each and they don't fit together snugly so the make a lot of clanking sound. For myself I came up with a solution to that. I disconnected the arms from the pedals and attached high quality bands to the bottom of the arms and attach the other end of the bands to door hook that came with the bands when I use the bike. This provides the upper body exercise but I can move them independently from the pedals. I use Bodylastics bands, as the safety design of them makes them way safer then any thing you are going to buy in any store I've been to.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Description is Very Misleading Make sure to try this in store before you buy it. Unfortunately, my store didn't have a demo unit on display. I bought this unit because the description said "Automatically adjusts the resistance of the bike" and "Resistance and time length of each workout are pre-determined". The reality is that the resistance of this bike never changes! There is barely any resistance. It is similar to riding a very, very low geared bike on a flat roadway. You just spin and spin. When you spin faster, the resistance DOES NOT increase any appreciable amount. The "workout" just indicates to spin faster or slower. I paid twice as much for this unit compared to other offerings at WalMart because I was under the impression this unit had mechanics that varied the resistance versus the other cheaper units that relied on belts that you tighten to increase friction (that wear out). I hate those belt systems because the belts wear out and are expensive to replace but at least you get a workout with them. I don't see the point of this machine unless you are the type that is so immobile that going through the motions without resistance is of benefit for you. But why pay this much? Go with an alternate where you pay less and get more. This unit is all eye-candy and no substance. A 20 minute call to Gold's helpline was an exercise in frustration because the person had not familiarity with the model and even she finally agreed that there were no mechanics in the drawing that would provide variable resistance. Investigate WalMart's other offerings for less money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from going nowhere fast enough The bike assembled easy enough. Had problems on one pedal. Seats a little hard. Other than that I ride it every morning for 25 minutes, that's 5 miles and 100 calories at the speed of 12.6 to 13.5 mph. Have had to tighten the bolts on pedal twice. It will need tightened regularly. Not sure how bike will be for weight loss, but is good cardio. Not hard to pedal, don't hold handle bars the whole time as I have nerve damage, it's easy enough to sit without holding on. Satisfied with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slippery Seaty I like the quality of the air cycle and it was easy to assemble. I was just disappointed with the seat. It was too high for me and I put it at the lowest adjustment setting and the seat was very uncomfortable . I am 5 ft. 3 inches tall with short legs It was difficult to stay on it for 30 minutes as I was slipping off the seat. I will need to buy another comfortable wide seat so I can use it comfortably. I have to give it a thumbs up for quality and ease of assembly.
