I tried all other exercise bikes (at several stores and by ordering online-only bikes and returned), both upright and recumbent bikes. No other bikes are so smooth, quiet, comfortable, and gives great workout like this bike. I'm 5'2" and I just made it with my sneakers. Thank God I'm not that short for this machine. Tried recumbent bikes of all brands, Nothing is like a real workout but this Upright bike. It pumps your heart less than a minute, it gives you a smooth lower body workout. I still work out on my treadmill, but some days, I simply am too tired to be walking, so this bike is all I need. I just sit down on this comfortable bike and work out 30, 40 minutes, taking breaks now and then, not disturbing any family members because it's super quiet. The price is unbelievable for the value you get. If I remember correctly, I went to Walmart 5, 6 times to try out on this bike, and every single time, I was satisfied. Then, I purchased it when I found out the free shipping promotion for the month of October, and that day I was at Walmart trying out the bike again, was October 31st., and the store didn't have the new model, so I drove home super fast and ordered it online, and guess what, it arrived 2 days later, by Fed-Ex!!! I couldn't believe it!. I waited patiently for my 14 year son to come home from school and both of us assembled the bike. It was so easy! On top of that, we are saving lots of money by using the Universal AC Adapter we had it long time ago instead of buying the batteries. Real Value for the Money this Bike!

Smooth, Quiet, Comfortable, Great Workout!

This bike is perfect for doing a basic workout and doesn't take up a lot of space. Connects to iPod or iPhone for music during the workout. Speakers aren't great but meets the basic need. Fan helps on high or low setting during use. Adjustable seat works for me at 5 feet 1 inch and my husband who is 6 feet 1 inch. Overall good purchase for the price. Free shipping made the decision for us!

Decent bike for the price we paid

Everything I hoped it would be. VERY sturdy. First few uses it took pulse and was correct. After a few uses it does not seem to take pulse correctly or each time I use it, even with thumbs in proper placement. This is no big deal to me, but could be to someone else.

Love it!!

The only reason I didn't give this five stars was because the power pack is a separate purchase and I think they should just include it, even if it is $20 more. Just makes sense instead of batteries. We got this bike to replace a 20 yr old cycle - the 290C is much smoother ride and quieter. Was able to put together myself, don't need to pay someone else. My husband only had to help me carry to our rec room and I took it from there ... made him happy :} Shipping was free and they delivered it five days after order so very fast. Still learning all the functions, it has been two weeks and no issues. Power pack on order.

Very smooth ride, good buy and fast delivery

Assembling was not an issue. Bike looked great and it worked fine first 2 days. On the third day it developed an annoying knock inside on the left side. It was not loud but silent bike is very important for us since we have wooden floors and people living downstairs. We plan to continue using this bike mostly early morning or late night and we don't want to disturb our neighbors. It would be irritating to us as well, after all it was annoying... and cmon, we just bought this thing!

I decided to take action and take a look inside since I hated the idea of returning fully assembled bike to the store. Cover came off easily. I moved the left pedal up and down and noticed a little play developed at the base. I took a screwdriver and hammer and tight it up clockwise. It turned easily so I figured this was the problem... and it was. Bike is silent again. Love it!

If it wouldn't be for this described above issue I would give it a 5 star over all. I also see that I will have to re-tight some screws after a while since material and parts get adjusted to each other. I think it is normal.

It is great for the money, but....

Bought this exercise bike for my wife to rehabilitate her new knee. I sprint race bike and swim competitively. I spin and swim twice a week for an hour each for a total of four hours during the off season. I am one of the fastest in my spin class. I also strength train the other three days. The SMR Silent Magnetic Resistance is too strong for me. It's level 1 is the equivalent of a seven on a spin bike and by the time you get to level three you're at a nine. Can't imagine what level 16 is going to be like. Not for a beginner. Very discouraging!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too Tough

seems to be a good product but after i got it put together we noticed the body is cracked. dont know if it was from shipping or warehouse. since it is still functional we decided it wasn't worth taking it apart and returning it to the store. still it was very disappointing.

This was a gift for my husband at Christmas....he put it together and sadly realized the motor was not working. Called Gold Gym Customer Service the following day, and after waiting on hold for over 50 minutes, was told we had two choices - either take the motor apart and rebuild with them on the phone or take back to the store we purchased it from. We took it back, fully assembled for a refund.
You should not have to rebuild something when you take out of the box new. Ridiculous.
Walmart did take it back without any issues.

Defective out of the box

The unit worked - albeit with very hard resistance on the very first setting.
This seems to be a problem with the resistance motor (or whatever it is technically referred to) that determines just how much resistance is needed.

After using it despite this issue (I viewed it as a challenge to get stronger) the control panel stopped responding to the movement of the wheel - it does not sense that the wheel is rotating anymore and times out after a minute or so.
This means that you no longer can use any functions of the timer, clock, distance, etc.
The resistance still works, but the initial setting is hard enough.

THIS WAS ONLY AFTER 4 DAYS - about 2 HOURS ACTUAL USE.
I purchased a 3 year plan, but I am going to return it to the store (and I'm probably going to be stupid and exchange it for - hopefully - a functioning one).

Same problem as most other people - a gamble

This looked like a great exercise bike. We purchased one and after cycling for about 5 minutes the second time on, it made a clucky noise and froze up. Once we did get the pedals to move it made an awlful grinding noise. We returned it for a refund, but decided to try this same bike again. Unfortunately, about 2 minutes in to the first cycle the same thing happened again.
