This has 6 blades, so you can slice and dice everything you need.  It is easy and fast to use, and I am loving it.  I was considering the Starfrit Pro mandolin that was cheaper, but I'm glad I purchased this one instead, since it is superior.  Saves me a lot of time in the kitchen. My husband has been enjoying the scalloped potatoes, since they are so easy to make now.  You won't be disappointed.

Great machine

I had a mandolin back in the 70s and found it easier and safer to just use a knife. Well, now I need a faster solution to cutting and chopping veggies because I can't stand for very long. I've done months of research on mandolins, including America's Test Kitchen's review on these things. I've browsed online for them, read reviews and looked at the best prices for the best mandolins. This one came out on top of all of my searches. It has one of the widest and longest veggie beds and the sharpest blades. It does its job well and takes little to no time to wash up. The very sharp blades are well guarded and I'm not too fussy about drying them so I don't. I have seen no signs of them rusting. I am very pleased with this mandolin but am considering buying the mesh glove so I can get a more firm hold of the veggies with my hand and go faster to cut them up rather than using the knob that comes with it. 

The knob does what it is supposed to do as best as possible depending on the type of veggie it is holding. That knob has four spring loaded pins positioned within the upper round part of it. If your veggie is bigger around than the round part of the knob, what is outside of it has nothing holding it together as it is being forced back and forth. The knob has four pins that you push into your veggie and they hold well but if the veggie cracks or breaks apart as it's being shoved back and forth over the bed of the mandolin there is no way any highly engineered knob is going to hold it together and when the veggie splits apart  there is nothing for the knob to hold on to. Note: the knob is the hardest part of the mandolin to clean. Lots of little bits of veggie get stuck up inside its many, wee nooks and crannies which are hard to get to with those four pins in the way.

Many mandolins out there have a very small knob guard or none at all so I avoided them.

As a final note, for me, I would prefer a mandolin with a bed that is longer AFTER the blade so your hand and veggies don't drop down as you push it past the blades (after all, the greater the speed the cleaner the slice, right). I find this interrupts the back and forth motion. So does stopping after the blade so your veggie and hand don't drop down. I have yet to find a mandolin whose bed is any longer past the blades so this one is still the best out there.

I got the slicer for Christmas. It was on my wish list. I had a previous version of the star fruit mandolin. I used it for about 15 years. I replaced it because I wants draw more deluxe version and handed it down to my brother. Love it!

I have been using it for 6 months and recommend it to all, I use several startfrit product and am not decu good purchase

Very well adapted and well designed

This Mandoline will cut, but takes a lot of muscle, cuts uneven, and the blades are not good.  It takes my husband to use it, and it sticks hard.  You usually end up cutting you finger nail, or finger because guard jumps off the unit leaving the cutting edge exposed.  Doing away with, getting a better one.

Works but has problems

It is very cheap plastic and does not fit together very well. I will just use a knife. I will donate it to a thrift store.
