Hamilton Beach 1.5 Qt. Ice Cream Maker is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 113.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Machine My daughter loves the Hamilton Beach Ice Cream Maker. I received this product in red and I love it. It is easy to assemble. It comes with a book of recipes for ice cream. We used those recipes to make our own ice cream and later we added nuts and chocolate chips to it. It is also delicious and I highly recommend it. It is something you can do with the family or something you do can if you love to try new things. You can add different flavors or fruits to make it your own. There is only one thing you must do, and that is freeze the container that comes with the ice cream maker. If you do not freezer the container, it will not make ice cream. I recommend you freezing it at least 24 hours in advance or leave it in the freezer for future use. It is easy to use. After freezing the container, place it on the displayer and pour your ingredients inside and turn it on. The machine does all the work. After 20 to 30 minutes your ice cream should be complete. You place it in the freezer for an hour and it is ready for everyone to enjoy. It only makes about 4 cups at a time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Good Ice Cream Maker I had never purchased an Ice Cream maker before and the Hamilton Beach 1.5-Qt Ice Cream Maker was reasonably priced and looked pretty easy to use. It came securely packaged and was easy to remove. The red color was very nice. The machine comes basically in 4 parts. There is the electrical base, the freezer bowl, the blender blade and the clear plastic cover. Included in the instruction booklet are several ice cream recipes, which I found helpful as I had never made homemade ice cream before. After washing all the components I followed the directions and put the freezer bowl in the freezer overnight in anticipation of making ice cream the next day. I chose to follow the easy vanilla ice cream recipe that was in the instruction booklet because it did not contain eggs and I was going to be serving it to my young grandchildren and it was quick. After preparing the ice cream base I took the freezer bowl out of the freezer as directed, added the base and turned on the machine. The directions say that the ice cream would be ready anytime between 20 and 40 minutes so I set my oven timer on 20 minutes just to see. After 20 minutes you could definitely see that the mixture was becoming thick but it did not look like ice cream yet so I set the timer for another 10 minutes. After 30 minutes it was definitely thicker so I added some mini chocolate chips at that time and let it go another 10 minutes. After 40 minutes the mixture had pretty much doubled in size and became very thick so I shut it off and quickly transferred it to a covered container and put it int he freezer for about an hour to let it set up for a bit. After taking it out of the freezer I served it up to the kids. I found that it really wasn't very creamy and it tasted more like ice milk than ice cream. It was probably just the recipe so next time I Will definitely look for a better ice cream base recipe but all in all the machine did what it said it would do. I have say that the machine, while running, is pretty loud so be prepared for that but all in all I was pleased with the machine and would recommend it. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and Easy to use. I am very happy with this ice cream maker, it is super easy to use, and the ice cream comes out tasting great, much more softer and creamier than the store bought kind. This is a 1.5 quart capacity, which makes about 3 to 4 good size servings. Something I would like to point out is that according to the instructions you need to freeze the bowl for about 8 to 22 hours before use, I would say that it works best if you leave it in the freezer for a good 24 hours before using. Also the description states that it makes the ice cream in as little as 20 minutes, but it can take between 20 and 40 minutes depending on the mixture you are adding. I think this is a great product for those people who have allergies, or maybe have a lactose intolerance, it is an easy way to control what goes into the ice cream. In total this machine is 4 pieces, and the clean up is simple, the base is wipe clean only and the other 3 pieces you wash up with a little soap and water, then put the "bowl" back in the freezer so it is ready for the next time. Overall I am very happy with this machine, I can not say that I will never buy store bought ice cream again because I will, only because over time making it "homemade" all the time can get quite costly. Rated 3 out of 5 by from What did you say? Can't hear you! If you like the sound of a cement mixer rumbling through your kitchen then this is the machine for you! This thing was so loud we were yelling at each other to have a normal conversation. I was about to go get the earplugs when we decided to move it to the garage. Besides the noise it was easy to use and the simple vanilla ice cream recipe came out great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nothing like homemade ice cream! Impossible to find low sugar ice cream, so I feel good about using ingredients of my choosing. It's not heavy and is easy to use. It only took about 10 min, which is less time than it states (I'd had the bowl in the freezer of course). It says to use no more than 4 cups of mix due to expansion, but my recipes don't seem to expand much and there is still plenty of room so I use more mix. It took me a while to try this because I had to use up some stuff in the freezer to make room for the bowl - I have the smallest fridge you can get without it being an under-the-counter and have a small apt. So - space is an issue, but it's worth the hassle. It is a bit loud and not just loud, but makes an odd sort of grinding noise. So it's loud but also odd-sounding. Oh well. And if you need the ice cream to be more hard, a little time in the freezer fixes that, and my leftovers freeze well. Been happy with plain vanilla using unsweetened almond milk and cream or maybe with a dash of cardamom but options are endless.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOISY...and it didn't work I followed the instructions correctly - froze the cannister for 24+ hours, chilled my mixture overnight, etc. When I turned it on and poured in the ingredients, it churned for about 30 seconds, then started reversing - which is what the machine is supposed to do when the mixture is done freezing. The problem is, the outside 1/4" of mixture is frozen to the sides of the cannister, causing the paddles to freeze to the cannister as well. The only way to get it working again is to allow the cannister to thaw, but then it won't freeze the ice cream mixture. What a mess... And did I mention it's LOUD? Painfully so. I've had ice cream makers of this type before and never had a problem. I'm really disappointed with this machine.
