I am a recent Hisense convert after having bought two of these. One to replace a 10 year old Samsung Plasma and one to use on a new high end workstation PC. When it comes to TVs, and most other electronics for that matter. I always look for the best bang for the buck products. Ones that give great performance for not the biggest amount of cash. I take this same approach when I build computers, buy appliances, or purchase a new car.  Hisense does have some great TVs at low price points. When it comes to the ULED, and Quantum line there is a lot to offer.

This TV out of the box is like most on the market and is in need of decent calibration setup to get a great picture for your room. The quick settings are OK but not very close to how most rooms are set up. For retail settings maybe, but once in a regular home they are just a little off. A quick web search for some settings and a quick run through a THX optimizer and the picture is stellar and quite impressive. Deep rich blacks, bright vibrant colors, and it's very bright for only being rated at 700nits. Everything I have played on it from Youtube to the Android TV box look outstanding. Granted it also depends on the original content and the amount of compression. Like any source. Blueray looks incredible. The settings I did find and use were for the model above this, the Q9809. But because they are similar the settings are very close. I only had to adjust a couple things to bring it in line to how it should look. Namely the contrast and a touch of sharpness. 

This model is unique to Hisense in Canada and does not have a direct US model but it is also similar to the Q9809. I do wish more places like Costco did carry the Q9 as there are some features on that model that would make it an even better value. Like the native 120hz panel versus the 60hz of the Q8809. Being as this TV is exclusive it is hard to find information about it anywhere outside of some forums. What I have found is that is that it is kind of a combination of two models. The Q9809 and the H8809. I do feel that this model could have been an even better value and an even better performer had it included a few more of the calibration settings of the Q9809 and the active dimming zones of the H8809. Then this model would be very hard to beat at any price point. 

As a main TV it looks incredible.Coming from a 10 year old plasma that still has an incredible picture, to a modern 4K smart display I couldn't be more pleased.  For a Quantum, 4K computer monitor. What's not to like? A 55" monitor that converts into 4 1080p 27" monitors and its got low input lag. It pretty much covers it all.

It is still considered a "budget" TV and it does have some short comings. But for the price and the value of what this TV does offer. It is pretty impressive. Everyone I have recommended this TV to has the same opinion. It looks great and is more than what they were expecting.

A lot of Wow, for not a lot of money

I own several 4K  HDR LCD TV's, but wanted to explore QLED, without investing an arm and a leg. I am impressed with the colours that this TV produces out of the box an am sure that a calibration will make an already impressive picture much better.
The firmware update process was quick and painless and now I have access to Prime Video.
The only problem I have is that the TV loses it's wifi connection (no signal detected) and I have to unplug from power and plug the set back in to reset it. Not sure if it is hardware, firmware or Android (I have read another review where the writer is also experiencing the same issue). I am currently using an ethernet cable which limits where I can use this TV. I hope Hisense can resolve this problem as I would like to use this TV in my bedroom.
Other than this one issue this is a great value for an entry level quantum dot TV.

Great value for an impressive picture

With a colour calibrated warm 6500K white balance setting, my TV maxes out in peak brightness at around 300nits and gets a native contrast of around 3600:1. With a colder blue-ish white-balance, the peak brightness can hit closer to 370-nits; the contrast improves a bit, too. Overall, pretty low for an HDR TV, which should really be hitting 700 to 1000 nits to really qualify.

There is a "local dimming" option on this TV, but visually speaking, it acts more just like a global dynamic dimming. In scenes where there are no highlights, the blacks can get deeper with local dimming on, but in scenes with a mix of darks and highlights, the local dimming does very little I find. It's useful, but it doesn't help increase the HDR experience all that much.

I found watching movies on this TV acceptable with dim lighting. Black levels are as one might expect for a LCD TV; not super great, but acceptable. Viewing angles are pretty awful though, so I wouldn't sit anywhere but directly in front of this TV. From the sides the picture washes out quickly.

You probably don't need to get this TV colour calibrated or anything; the presets were all pretty decent. Good enough for home viewing at least. The options to turn off motion interpolation and such are all there, which I definitely did. I don't watch sports with this TV, so I cannot comment there.

For standard UHD content I find the TV is more than up to the task. For HDR-content though, not so much. Watching 'Frozen' on Disney+, with DolbyVision enabled, things feel pretty dim and low-contrast, although there was the occasional highlight that reminded me HDR was on. The colours were quite good, but due to the lack of peak brightness I felt underwhelmed.

Watching "Joker" over HDR10 gave me more control over the HDR tone curve via contrast/brightness adjustments being available. Setting the peak-brightness to 360-nits and calibrating the brightness curve to have no roll-off, the screen was capable of offering a good HDR punch. However, highlights were clipped harshly as a result: lights, the sky, reflective surfaces. It was a bit too distracting to watch the movie this way, due to the clipping, but it was an interesting experiment.

The speakers are servicable. They aren't good enough for music I'd say, but I haven't had a problem watching normal YouTube videos with them.

The corners of the TV have some darkening, so the brightness uniformity isn't quite perfect, but it's not something I notice without looking for.

The TV looks and feels of decent quality; metal frame/stand, so not cheap looking.

Things get a bit sluggish, performance-wise, at times, and this seems to be a memory (RAM) issue. There's advanced tweaks you can make to the Android OS that can help here; at least they did for me.

I've own the TV for a week now and the system has never updated its software/firmware. It's a bit annoying as I can't watch PrimeVideo without chromecasting it, and the YouTube app does not support HDR video playback, so the only way I can watch HDR content is either via Disney+ or by connecting the TV to my computer. I wish the TV just updated the firmware automatically, so instead I've emailed the customer support the other day asking for new firmware; I've yet to hear a response.

The remote control is OK. The Home button is just under the down button, and I find myself pressing it by accident all the time. The problem here is takes me out of whatever I was doing, changing HDMI inputs even, and it's a hassle to get things back to where I was before. I'd prefer to have to Long-Hold the button or something to avoid this issue.

Lastly, the HDMI inputs can be a bit finicky at times. The 18gbps HDMI cables that work with my other 4K TV's struggle to work with this TV. It can take a minute or two for the TV to finally connect at times to my computer or 4K camera when connected over HDMI. I'm using an 8K-rated cable at the moment instead now, and it seems better, but it is also very short. Using this TV as a computer monitor has been successful, and that is how I probalby will use it mainly going forward.

Anyways, my overall rating of this TV is 4/5 if priced aggressively. It supports HDR content, but the experience is not much better than just standard 4K content with dynamic contrast turned on. Colours are good though and speakers are acceptable, and if you can manage to get the firmware update, it should be a pretty good budget TV.

Good colours & DolbyVision support, but weak HDR

Excellent picture!! Android OS a bit slow and ARC setup great for soundbar which you would always use but not well suited for AV receiver setup as will always turn on AV system. So far so good!!

Beautiful picture!

I bought this a month ago, just discovered 120 motion rate is actually only 60hz. I'm quite disapointed... The image pin high detail 4 k movies is disappointing as the tv does not keep up well... I can only smoothly watch up to 1080p movies. Also Alexa can only turn tv off no other functions... Kodi doesn't work... And no Prime video.

Disappointed with product

I’ve been watching this belle TV for 15 months, but for the last 3 days I’ve noticed a problem with the brightness in the upper left. I tried a lot of settings but I couldn't take it off. It was a great disappointment for a product I trusted.

15 months and already problems

I bought this on boxing day and have returned 1 and about to return the 2nd. Terrible clouding and bad dark corners on both TV's. Can't stream or cast to it without stuttering and using gigabit internet hardwired in. Would no recommend this model.
