I am happy with this cordless drill and price. The things I would change would be for my own comfort.
The black and decker (I would not want one and use a friends at work sometimes) has a thinner handle which makes it more comfortable to use.
The switch to go from forward to reverse is in a position that gets bumped out of forward if in using the drill in angled positions. (not a lot, just have not had this happen on other drills)
The keyless chuck, when using high quality drill bits, slips some.
Overall the tool is excellent. Some mods could be done in the future.
I have never not had enough power for any job.

I rated all exelellent, but improvement is possible.

I am a aircraft mechanic and needed a drill. So far I am still on the first battery that I charged and still going strong for a good two weeks. This drill is the best bang for buck to get.

Best drill to use as a Mechanic

Bought mainly to keep in RV, we are in it over 10 months out of year. Used it several times to lower and raise stabilizer jacks and several other things that needed worked on and it has a lot more power than my old one when it was new. Very happy with it so far. Have not had it long enough to know durability yet.

Lots of Power

This drill is so far ahead of the competition for value and performance. I use it professionally in the automotive field and it is outstanding.
The battery life is great, the tool drills or can loosen or tighten fasteners with ease.
Absolutely the best multi purpose drill/driver I have ever used-- and I have 35 years experience!

Excellent product--great performance

I HAVE HAD THE OTHER DRILL ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AND HAVE ENJOYED USING IT ONLY PROBLEM EVER IS THE CLUTCH THAT MOVES LOWER WHEN I DRILL WITH IT. THIS DRILLS HAVE A LOT OF TORQUE AND THE BATTERY LASTS A LONG TIME. EVEN USE IT ICE FISHING TO DRILL HOLES, WORKS GREAT! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS. THANKS FOR A GREAT PRODUCT!!

I HAVE ANOTHER DS18___ THAT I PURCHASED

This is my first Hitachi drill that I have ever bought. I had always heard the great reputation that Hitachi had, so I gave it a try when my old drill broke. I am impressed with this 1/2 drill. Not only is it powerful enough to drill any hole or take out or put in any screw. but it is very light and can easily be maneuvered to any position you can think of. The power is very impressive. I have another 18 volt, but the lithium ion has a power of its own. I will definitely get another Hitachi power tool product for my next power tool I get. This drill is a home run. Very satisfied with product.

This drill is the real deal!

Works great around the house and professional too. Have heard very little about their products but nothing bad.

Lightwieght powerful for price

This little device is very compact but very powerful. It is relatively inexpensive compared to similar products. It comes with two battery packs which is a very good think if you are working on a long project. I highly recommend this tool to any hobbyist and DIY person.

Small and powerful

I build pole barns for a living and this drill did great. I bought it because for it's price, reputation, and warranty, it beat out the other brands by far. The only thing I wish it had different was a light mounted around the chuck or on the battery.

The drill does a great job.

First of all, this is a powerful drill / driver. As it includes two batteries, it is an outstanding value. My only gripe is with the case, which appears to be designed for something else - similar, but different. Maybe this is a generic case, but it's a challenge to get everything lined up so that the thing will actually close. For example, there are spaces for the two batteries plus the drill, but if there is a battery installed on the drill, the upper battery slot collides with the back of the drill. There is a sort-of outline for the charger, but the lid won't close if you line it up in the shape - you have to set the charger in at an angle. There is a set of driver bits included in a circular case, but the place for the bits looks more like some kind of conical device, like a chuck, should go in there. As it is, setting the bit case in there means that the drill gets moved over to collide with the battery - assuming you decide to get a third battery. The batteries charge very quickly, by the way. I ran one to where the drill was slowing down, put it in the charger and went for a snack. When I returned (about half an hour later), it had finished charging. Overall, I'm very pleased with this tool, and would recommend it.

Odd case design

Bought this tool for home use. Never used one of the batteries until the other had ran down. Went to use it and was dead. Put it on the charger and it showed it was broken. Never has taken a charge.

Batteries are junk.
