Ratings & Reviews+

HOMEWORX 150PVR is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from meets expectation After reading many reviews on Amazon and Walmart I decided to give this a try because I wanted to spend as little as possible for a device that works kind of like a VCR in the old days. It arrived 1 day early at a nearby Walmart neighborhood store. It comes in a rather small box. Setting it up was easy, like most reviewers stated. I made 2 trial recordings of TV shows (half hour each) on a flash drive at 1080p and 720p. Both worked fine. Then I set it up to record 16 episodes of a TV show (an all-day marathon). That's when the inconvenience come up - I had to repeat 16 times for selecting the channel, setting start time, end time, to confirm it, etc. It took quite a while to do that. BTW, I used an external HDD for storage. At 720p, each episode (59 min.) takes up about 3.8 GB of storage. I looked up its website; the support forum states that this device already has the latest software on it. Overall, It meets my expectation. You can't expect too much for such inexpensive device.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too many defects This gadget seemed to work fine at first, then problems appeared. On some channels the tuner/converter worked fine - until recording began. Then the video on the tv got pixellated, and the recording showed medium to severe pixellation on playback. The audio in the recording was often out of synch or missing. This gadget refuses to record from one sub-channel even though the tuner/converter receives and delivers that sub-channel's signal well. When I try to record that sub-channel, using either the timer or the manual record button, the gadget flashes this message: "Unknown error - leaving". When you change channels, the gadget normally displays a box with the signal strength, the time, the program currently on, and the program scheduled next. Now instead of showing the program scheduled next, it lists whatever was broadcast one or two programs further back. The tuner/digital-to-analog converter was the last to go, but now the audio and video are out of synch on all channels. If you like pixellated recordings with mangled audio, unrecorded recordings, out-of-synch audio, and miscellanous other quirks, then this unit is for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value for money I bought this after trying a couple of other products one from RCA and another and was going to give up on getting OTA free TV. Gave this a try and its great. I get 3-4 channels using this and my Terk indoor antenna and arund 10 channels if I place the antenna in the balcony of my condo (at Toronto's west end)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor performance This box has many drawbacks. After some time on a standby it fails to recognize if storage media is connected . You have to recycle power to make it work. There is no fix available from the manufacturer. No upgrade to fix any issues.
