Ratings & Reviews+

Hoover® Max Extract® 60 Pressure Pro™ Deep Carpet Cleaner is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 573.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great first 2 months, then went south! We previously owned an earlier Hoover Steam Carpet cleaner, and was extremely happy. However, I did my research to find the best brand/model/price that would do the cleaning in our home, and I was set to buy a different brand/model. My husband's research determined this model was an overall better deal with better reviews, so I went with the Hoover. The first month and a half, it worked great, had no complaints. However, my opinion did not last. First, was the fact that as soon as I used the stair hose assembly, everything went south. I noticed that even while using the cleaner for carpet floor cleaning, the hose was continually leaking even when not in use. Second, the whole unit dirty/clean water holding tanks would not stop leaking, meaning that no matter what if I stopped to empty or refill any holding tank, I had to remove everything, because otherwise I would come back to the machine with a huge puddle underneath unit, bad seals? Third, the quality/design of the hose system is the cheapest I have ever seen, and it leaks, sprayer portion continues to spray leak all the time. Fourth, The overall workmanship of actually cleaning/ suctioning went from a 9 (out of ten) to 3 after the 1st month and a half of ownership (approximately 1 complete carpet cleaning and 2 spot cleanings). Conclusion: Hoover manufacture and design needs to use better materials for manufacturing the unit, offer solutions resolving the major issue's of consumers that own this model, as in recall/updates that improve product and customer satisfaction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After Years of Use It Still Works Beautifully!!!! I buy only Hoover shampooers because they're the only ones I can find that allow I I buy only Hoover shampooers because they're the only ones I can find that allow you to rinse with clear water - as often as you like. Since soap left in the carpet attracts dirt, it's a no-brainer to buy one that gets rid of the soap! I can afford to have my rugs professionally cleaned but the pro's DON'T RINSE! That makes for loads of repeat business for them. I have an old dog that at times decides she'd rather potty on the rugs than go outside (also when she's upset with me) so I often use the shampooer monthly - or even weekly. If all goes well with the dogs, I shampoo every 4 months or so. With a 5000 sq. ft. home (plus a guest house) -- that makes for a lot of wear and tear on any shampooer. The Max Extract 60 has held up admirably - so much so that I bought one for my son who is a single parent raising twin 9 year old boys and a teenaged daughter. He loves it, too!! Other family members borrow mine once or twice a year. I would recommend cleaning it well after each use. Pay particular attention to the 2 screens. Also, I NEVER leave any water or soap in the machine. That's asking for problems with the seals. Are there a couple of things I'd change? Of course. First, I'd expand the user's manual. I don't think it's as thorough as it should be. Second, if Hoover is going to hide a filter behind the front suction panel, they should make it easier to remove without breaking off the top tab. I just managed to break it off my shampooer and am in the midst of drilling small holes and running a wire through them to catch on the hook. Be very gentle if/when you have to remove that front piece. The key to this last part is I BROKE IT OFF! It didn't break itself. (Short Example) My sister's Labrador retriever was digging in mud and ended up absolutely covered in it. She snuck in through the dog door while my sis was busy in another part of the house. When she returned her rugs appeared to be ruined. She called me almost in tears. (The house was less than 2 years old.) I told her to come get my shampooer and that I really thought it would take care of the problem. After a quick lesson, she left with the shampooer. You guessed it -- the rugs are like new again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed After the second use, one of the pins underneath the clean water/shampoo container popped out causing a big mess. I also have water pouring out the back when I'm pushing the machine tilted back. I doubt I can get a replacement part under warranty because I can't find my receipt.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cleans well when it works-flawed design This carpet cleaner appears to work well when it is working, unfortunately there is an obvious weak link. The spinscrub unit comes with an included spare shaft. When this broke the first time I used this unit, I assumed that it was just a fluke and was grateful for the spare. Now that I have gone to use the carpet cleaner a second time and the spare shaft broke after cleaning only a 10 square foot area, I realize that this is a known weak link. This shaft should be made of metal! I now recognize that by shipping this product with a spare part Hoover is essentially admitting that they know the product has a problem. Instead of one spare shaft they should ship a dozen, or do the right thing and build the shaft out of brass with a nylon bushing where the shaft rubs against the plastic body of the SpinScrub unit. This rubbing is obviously causing friction and therefor heat that is obviously the downfall of this cheap plastic shaft. Shame on Hoover for building a product that they know is faulty!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoover Pro 60 Carpet Cleaner Delivers First, read the other reviews before buying. I did, and knew what to expect "in the box." This unit has an almost professional size width to its work area, so it covers a nice wide swath. It could be hard to push and pull except for the large rear wheels. I like the handle as it is much more comfortable than a straight one. Used it yesterday for the first time, and it delivered. The water/cleaning fluid tanks lasted far longer than my puny Bissell unit did, and combined with the width of the area the Hoover encompasses, I was able to cover the same area in about 3/4 of the time it used to take. Today, I am going back over the most heavily walked on and ground in soiled areas of our carpet, and expect this second run will leave me very pleased with the Pro 60's final results. I would definitely buy this unit again and recommend it to family and friends. Oh, yes, for $7.95, or so, I did purchase the 2-yr warranty, just in case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprising Performance I have had my Max Extract 60 for a little while now and have had the opportunity to use it in a number of environments--both in the house and cars--and have only positive results to report. In the cars, the upholstery tool had fantastic suction and removed tons of dirt I couldn't even see. It left the seats and carpets bright and smelling great. In the house, the Max Extract surprised me even more. It cleaned very well and I was shocked to find that after a couple of "dry passes", the carpets were nearly dry to the touch, and totally dry after 2 hours. The Max Extract restored my carpet to its original tan color that I hadn't seen in years, even though I have rented a popular red machine every 6 months. I'm so glad I bought this machine because it cleans far better and leaves the carpets drier than the commercial rental machines. The Max Extract has exceeded my expectations and I would absolutely recommend it.
