It works, but the recommended amount on the back of the package doesn't give an indication of how much it is expected to decrease the PH.  We discovered the amount required for the volume of our pool (yes I did the calculation) only lowers it by 0.1 or 0.2, so you may need to double or triple the dose to get it back into balance (or low enough - in the ideal range - that you don't have to worry about the natural rise in PH that happens, for a little while).
