I was looking for a durable microscope for my 12 year old son and this was a great find. I am a scientist and use microscopes in my research and wanted something similar for him. This is top and bottom viewing so he is able to look at a variety of samples and slides. My biggest concern was looking for a scope that was all metal and this one is but still light enough that he can travel with it when we go out in the field. The stage and fine focus are also durable and similar to a professional scope. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I got this to check my animals for worms

I ordered the microscope for my son as birthday gift and he has enjoyed it tremendously since receiving it. I chose this one over others in the similar price range because of the extra digital eyepiece. I can easily connect it to a computer and have the displayed on a big screen. Which is Cool! This feature is especially good for a group of people to view together! Incredible, isn't it? The manual was ok for me but could be better written for children to understand the different aspects that could be done with it.

I bought this microscope for a Christmas present after I bought a microscope and telescope set from Toys r us and found out that they weren't worth diddly. So I researched microscopes for a long time before deciding on this one. I figured if I bought one for them I wanted the best quality for the price- a low price. I bought it knowing it was on the cheap side, but at least I could use it and it was made by a company who made more than just toys. I am an engineer and used lab microscopes at various jobs and to my suprise this microscope had a very similar quality. I was plesently suprised by the quality and ease of use. It comes in a plastic protective carrying case similar to other tools I have. It also has the option for taking pictures and video on the computer, which I thought was important in case the kids (6 and 8) couldn't pick up looking into the eye piece real easy. They did though, with no problem and so I ended up setting the video capturing up myself. Not the best resolution/clarity with the video part, but better than I expected from the cost aspect. Totally worth the upgrade over the playtoys they have at Toys r us. It looks and feels like one you would have in a lab... only muuuuch less expensive. Good buy.

Excellent quality and performance for the money

Well, I won't remember to go back and write a review since this is a Christmas gift so my review is based upon what I see so far. I did take it out of the box and it appears sturdy. I did buy my daughter extra little slides because I think she would get bored otherwise. Since she is only 11, my expectations are pretty realistic that this probably won't be the best microscope ever, but I do think it will withstand a child's less than delicate handling!! I had Walmart ship this to me and it arrived fast so I'm happy with that too!!

Christmas Gift for Daughter!!

My daughter was so excited for the arrival of this microscope she couldn't wait to open it. Pictures are clear and defined. I even did a little searching and experimenting also. The case for the scope is nice and the added material was in tack. She uses it just about every day even when there's no biology class. She likes it very much.

Easy to use for young children stareing out

We looked at a lot of microscopes and purchased this for our 11 year old daughter. This microscope is well-made of sturdy materials. The lenses work great and show lots of clear detail. The focus knobs work well and the microscope was a good deal for the price.

Bought this for my 9 year old son. It works great

My 9 year old got this for her birthday. At first we were very impressed because it looked like it was nicely built. When we set it up the light didn't work and there was a screw missing that was supposed to hold the pin light. I called the company to let them know I was unhappy and would be returning their product to Walmart. I knew it was not their responsiblity but thought they would want to know the condition we received their product. The customer representative on the phone said, "What do you want me to do about it." and something similar to 'Can you send an email because my writing a little note won't do anything.' I realized that down the road customer service would not be very helpful. Instead of ording a new one we are trying a different company. I felt like a company that cared would have apologized for the condition and would at least taken the model information and store information so they could look into the matter. Walmart however was great. The microscope arrived in a prompt matter and they returned it without any problems. I have always been happy with ordering items from Walmart online.

Nice analog microscope, horrible digital microscope. The camera resolution is 640x480 and picture quality difference from analog to digital is night and day. I reallly like the microscope it has a nice heavy build quality, comes with a nice case and extras but for the price I could have got a better one that wasn't digital, since I doubt I will ever use this as a digital microscope now.

You tube videos show how to use a cell phone cam to make a digital microscope for $20 and some cell phones have an 8+ MP camera. If you don't even know what your competition is, why are you selling a 640x480 (equivalent to 1MP I think) res camera in 2014??

Don't buy for a digital microscope!
