Ratings & Reviews+

Katy Perry - Prism (Deluxe Edition) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really good. Prism is definitely one of Katy's best CDs. Highlights are Walking On Air (very 90s dance pop), This Is How We Do (fun song), and Love Me (good beat).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shine like Prism! Where do I start with one of 2013's most anticipated pop albums? I've listened to the entire album more than 10+ times now since it was released early (Oct. 18, 2013) in Germany. (Plus, it is now streamed early on I-Tunes). On Prism, Katy seems less sexually motivated and more in tune with spiritual energy compared to her previous album, Teenage Dream, and back to her once Christian roots. The "Get your heart racing with my skin-tight jeans" and "The boys break their necks trying to creep a little sneak-peek" has been replaced with somewhat courageous lines such as "Louder than a lion, cause' I am a champion, and you're gonna' hear me roar" (first single and album opener, "Roar") and "I will love you unconditionally. There is no fear now. Let go and just be free." (track 5 - Unconditionally). This approach is certainly a positive change for me, especially since most mainstream pop music these days tend to promote partying and chtty-chitty-bang-bang. I still can't help but feel like Prism is a bit on the 'safe' side though. As a whole, the entire album is easily digestible with different styles of music such as the trap-rap of "Dark Horse" (track 6 - featuring Juicy J), champagne popping Prince / upbeat Madonna 'Cherish' moment, "Birthday" (track 3), which throws you into some kind of cheesy party thrown by sweet sixteens, and "Legendary Lovers" (track 2), which has a Buddha vibe that makes me want to take out my mat and bust out yoga. But still, in the end, I'm left feeling like Prism is a experience that is somehow artificial. It's good but I don't seem to crave wanting more of it. In my opinion, the strongest streak comes towards the end: "Love Me" (track 10) where she sings 'sometimes I wish my skin was a costume that I could just unzip, and strip', to "This Moment" (track 11) reminiscent of out-of-the-left-field artsy transformation of Robyn (easily my favorite track of Prism), to "Double Rainbow" (track 12) written by Sia. And the album (standard) ends with "By the Grace of God" (track 13). There are three more tracks for the deluxe purchaser (two of which are strong and should have been included on the actual album): "Spiritual" (track 14) which is co-written by her current beau, John Mayer, and "It Takes Two" (track 15) a slight sequel to Who You Love from his latest album Paradise Valley. Forget about "Choose Your Battles" (track 16) as I think it is the worst. If I had a choice, I'd give it 3.5 stars; but since I can't, I will give it four stars just because the topic Katy covers on this album is encouragingly positive. But for that 5 stars, she'll need a little more risk and few digs deeper into her heart.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small but powerful I use this in my screened in Arizona room and it keeps me quite comfortable. The outside temperatures range from 45 - 70 during the winter. I would recommend this to anyone looking to stay warm. It has several heat levels and fan speeds.
