Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another very nice modular building. I just finished building this set today and I must say that the results are as beautiful as always with these modular sets. I have to admit that the first time I saw this set on the LEGO site, I was a tiny bit disappointed. I thought "hmm it's ok but it doesn't look very special". That was until I started to actually take a good look at this set and discovered all of the beautiful details and amazing features. I wouldn't say it's my very favorite modular building so far, but I definitely think it's another great purchase and a very nice addition to my modular street. I will list some awesome features that you get in this set. Brown building: -Opening hatch and doors leads to big basement. It goes all the way under the building. -Smart usage of bricks makes a support bar for the hat rack inside look like an actual doorbell next to the front door. -Little balcony with opening glass doors. -Very sturdy and very cool looking spiral staircase. -A lego toilet with a nice looking tiled floor. Blue building (pet shop): -Very nice flower details on the outside, making it look like a very cozy building. -You get a dog, a cat, a rat (outside), two parrots and a goldfish in a tank. -A shelf with toys for pets. -Green bicycle!!! -Upstairs features a little kitchenette, table, chair, fireplace and a stairs leading to an inside balcony with a bed on it. The only two cons I can think of are: -The wall between the ground floor stairs of the petshop and the inside of the petshop doesn't go all the way to the back. This means that technically any lego burglar could sneak inside the petshop, even when the doors are locked. :( -Upstairs of the brown house is a bit empty. It just features a man painting the walls, and some crates (bricks, not actual crates) on the top floor. Other than that I think the set is perfect and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking of getting it. Thank you LEGO and I can't wait for the next modular building! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive and Versatile This is one of my favorites of the town sets, because of the realistic detail both inside and out. I bought a pair of the Pet Shops so I could put the two modular townhouses together to evoke an urban block with a row of identical townhouses. (If I had enough money and space and nothing better to do, I'd create an actual townhouse block, but you get the idea.) That, of course, left me with two identical pet shops, so I've repurposed one as a newspaper office. As far as interior detail, the toilet is priceless. I've been scrounging elements to build more toilets for my other houses. I love the upstairs loft in the pet shop--both the overall interior and the bed and kitchen. Those furniture items can be duplicated to some extent with Pick-a-Brick elements and added to the upstairs of the townhouse or any of your other apartments. I put a sticker on the white paint slab and turned it into a wall-mounted flat-screen TV. I probably wouldn't buy a second one of any of the other town sets, but buying more than one of this set will enhance the appearance of your town.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A delight in many ways I'm an architect, which probably relates directly to my life-long relationship with LEGO. Even though I have many, many sets of various vintages, this set continually delighted and surprised me both while I was building it and after I was done. Since the set is not priced for impulse buying, I did research online and watched at least one review video. I bought the set online, and thus had a few days' interval between reviewing the video and starting the build. Even though I knew what I was building and what the special features were, I was still delighted and surprised. Some specific examples: - The "mircobuilds," like the telephone, toilet, aquarium, and kitchen, are exceptional examples of achieving a great effect with a few carefully-chosen parts. - Building the PETS sign starts out puzzling (what's going on?) and then becomes magical, as the letters are revealed bit by bit. - The attention to architectural detail, like recessing feature windows from the plane of wall, lends a sense of substantiality that far surpasses the tiny, lightweight means by which the effect is made. - The spiral staircases are infinitely more satisfying than, for example, the Harry Potter sets. - I was convinced there was a mistake in the instructions around the dormers until I was almost complete and realized the fine texture that was being created on the roof. I could go on and on (perhaps I already have), but I have not been this pleased with a purchase in quite a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great starter set for the collector series My first Collector series purchase in August 2011, I was instantly caught by the colourful designs and the good amount of extra figures and gimmicks. I found the set relatively easy to build and quite basic compared to Tower Bridge. But this dosen't mean I don't like it, the combination of terrace house and pet shop/apartment is very clever. The designs are great and books made it easy to build it was good that each building was kept separate and pieces were not too hard to find. This is a great set and I particularly like the components of the pet store and cute extras like the stove. Its easily one of my favourite sets. Another advantage is it can pulled apart easily and wiped to keep dust off and even better yet is the fact the buildings can placed in any order and even attached to other collector buildings. The girl and bicycle are clever along with the rat and his house and the parrots. Clear glass doors on the pet store are great too and I also love the stairway entrance to the upstairs flat and the little trapdoor in the flat. The highlight has to be the toilet under the stairs, its amazing how real it looks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lego Has Done It Again! Once again, LEGO has left me in awe, with their new Pet Shop. It has outstanding details, such as French Doors, a toilet, (which is awesome!), a hat rack, kitchen, cash register, and much more!! The French Doors actually operate, and the toilet is in a separate bathroom. The dog is really cool, with a new print for its head. Everything is well-placed. Some of the cons are the instructions, which I am disappointed in because the color is not correct. On the first floor of the pet shop, it wants you to use light-blue bricks. But on the booklet, the color appears to be light gray. Also, the house has great detail on the first floor, but on the other two floors, the rooms are bare! (except for a painter.) Other than those two concerns, this set is a great addition to any LEGO city. It is definitely worth your $$$.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1 Down, 4 to Go This was my first modular. I chose this set because it was two buildings, so there was more playability. PET SHOP: The pet shop was a more challenging build. The PETS sign can be easily altered with your own bricks to say something else. Great pets, including my first parrot. The apartment, is nice, but the entrance is a bit small, and I like how the bedroom looks down onto the main living space. I love the sidewalk and all the little details. APARTMENT: This was the first one I built. The bay window was a nice challenge and feature. I like how the building is raised with storage underneath. The windows are perfect and it reminds me of a European apartment. The colour is fabulous, but on the roof, I replaced the brown flowers with flat white tiles, because I didn't like them. I also needed to alter the roof because it had some trouble fitting on. OVERALL: Well worth the money, but it's more fun with the other buildings. My sister got the Grand Emporium, and I want the Fire Brigade for my birthday, if it's not retired :)
