Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great rebuild of a classic ship! As a matter of context, let me start by saying that I have all the UCS Star Wars sets. I will be making several references to the 7191 UCS X-wing , released 13 years ago. I build and display my UCS models. They have no value for me as a toy, and so none of my comments deal with playability. The new UCS X-wing is great, and has several improvements over the 7191 model. I definitely appreciate the inclusion of a back-up cockpit sticker (I recently had to use some 3M spray adhesive to touch up the 7191’s cockpit sticker) and the removal of STAMPs (stickers across multiple pieces) as compared to the 7191, meaning that this model can be completely disassembled if need be. Visually, the model is stunning with several design improvements over the 7191. The colours are definitely less gaudy and more faithful to the movie model. The ship is more streamlined, particularly in the nose. The engine detailing is excellent and far superior to the 7191, and the wingtip guns are far sturdier in construction (using short technic pins rather than long cross axles) and sleek in appearance. The greebling across the top of the gearbox is also much less contrived than in the 7191, and therefore much more effective. The R2D2 model is still disproportionately small for the model, but I just leave it out. The real gem of the new build is the new gearbox and X-foil mechanism. In the 7191, each wing was a separate entity hooked into the gearbox with two small technic pins each. Consequently, the wings were wobbly and over time have started to droop. The 10240 wings are constructed as two opposed sets of counterbalanced wings, interconnected inside the gearbox as a single structure. Overall, this makes the wings quite robust and allows them to scissor open and closed smoothly without any wobble. Really, the design of this mechanism was pure genius. The only diminished quality in my opinion is the stand. The older 7191 stand is hinged, allowing two possible angles for display. The new stand only has one possible display angle. Overall, this is a stellar model and I am happy that this iconic Star Wars ship was redesigned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Awesome X-Wing! The Red 5 X-Wing Starfighter is Luke Skywalker's personal X-Wing and the one he was flying when he blew up the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. He also flew it or more precisely crashed it on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. It is an iconic ship and Lego have done an excellent job in capturing it in brick form. The shape of the ship is excellent and is true to it's movie counterpart. The colouring is good too, but the shade of red isn't quite like the one in the movie. The wing mechanism is truly fabulous. When you turn a wheel at the back the wings fold or unfold, so you can display it either in attack position or in normal flying position. There is a lot of detail to this model - the engines are tricky to build but capture the right shape and size. Inside the cockpit is very detailed with computer screens, joystick, and pilot's seat. There's room for R2-D2 in the back, although to be more movie accurate, he should be a bit further down, but I hardly think this is a fault. The stand is strong and means you can display the X-Wing in perfect attack position, and the plaque has information on the ship itself. This is a great model however there is one small catch - the stickers. I don't mind stickers, however the stickers you need to apply to the X-Wing are sometimes large and awkward, or small and awkward. I understand that printing isn't always feasible for Lego, however considering that this is a UCS model, it would have been nice. Also a Luke Skywalker figure would have been better considering that R2-D2 is the most popular Star Wars minifigure there is! This model however is great and looks wonderful on display. A must have for anyone who either likes UCS sets or is a Star Wars fan, or both!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is the most expensive set i've ever bought. It's also my first UCS set. The build was great, probably the most fun i've had. The mechanism for the wings is just Genius and very sturdy. My only complaint... Stickers, more specifically the Cockpit Windshield stickers. Stickers are bad enough to get right, but transparent stickers are awful. They always end up foggy or with fingerprints. I haven't put mine on yet as i don't want to ruin the aestetic of it. Other than that it's a Perfect set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to build, great show piece I've been eyeing this model up since it came out due to the outrageous price of the older UCS version. I have the UCS TIE Interceptor and it would have made a great addition to that piece. However, this build will do nicely! I really enjoyed taking my time to build it allowing all aspects to come to life. This is my first large build in some time so it did take me awhile. Other obligations kept me from staying on it for long periods of time. All in all, I love the design. The stickers on the cockpit were a pain to apply and I think it would have done better with printed pieces. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade to Original! Being a lucky owner of the original UCS X-Wing (7191), I was reluctant at first to purchase this, as it seemed very similar to the original. However, the curiosity got to me .... What an enjoyable upgrade to the original model!! Everything has been redesigned, from the gear system that operates the wings, all the way down to the small details. This model is much more stable than the original, and the x-wing folding/unfolding mechanism is pure genius. This model is awesome! It is also amazing to see how far lego has come in model design in the last ten years or so ... the 7191 model was excellent, but this one just blows it away from a design standpoint. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great X-wing! 10240 is a thing of beauty. Wing mechanism works extremely well. The Technic here is well-hidden. It's use is intriguing, which makes up for the sore thumbs. Mostly the build is delightful, with some fantastic SNOT-work producing the body contours, and many little surprises that will even please owners of the former, even the necessary repetition is handled in such a way as to prevent boredom. A huge number of useful SNOT parts, jumper plates, and hinges sit alongside an array of plates, tiles, and bricks that will find a place in most collections. Technic parts may or may not be useful depending on your penchant, some rare or unique parts make this an excellent selection. Looks great on the shelf, and is fun to fiddle with as you pass. A superb set. Only two minuses - cockpit stickers - no pilot
