LEGO Technic - Customized Pick up Truck (42029) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Customised Pick-up Truck This is a great set, value and feature-wise. It boasts a tip-up tray, working winch, cool new gloss stickers, turbocharged V6 engine, lifting bonnet, front steering and independent suspension. That's not bad for just over 1000 pieces. It also looks awesome - the aesthetics are well designed and the lights, exhausts and grill bar all add to the set's authenticity. The suspension works well and I like how the truck is forwards tilted like the real thing so that when it's loaded up the chassis is level. I also love how the gear box can be controlled with an actual gearstick - it's the first time I've seen this feature. Another great aspect of this set is the pieces. The much-loved dark grey connecting bush with 2 m friction and 1 m axle is particularly plentiful with nearly 40, as is the red 2 m friction snap with cross hole. Just a few cons - I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting a bit tired of blue seats. I've never seen any other seat colour in Technic. What about grey, green, even white? And the yellow pistons of the engine are getting a bit tired as well. It's nice to see radical new engines like the green straight-six in the new Volvo front-end loader. The steering also needs a bit of work - it feels a little light and sluggish when at a standstill. But perhaps the biggest con is the lack of power functions. I reckon that any Technic set topping 1000 pieces should come with them. It's a bit of a pain to have to buy them separately. Other than that, this is an excellent new set. It certainly has far more and greater functions than the new bulldozer, if you're tossing them up for purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Technic Set! All in all this is a great set, best one since the 4x4 crawler! I'm going to give you guys some pros and cons of this set; Pros: This set is HUGE, over a foot long, about 8 inches tall. You get a lot of interesting parts with this set, some of them new, some of them rare! It's cool, detailed, realistic (Decently...), and it has a lot of fancy features! Decently cheap for what you're getting. All wheel independent suspension is very very cool, been waiting for a technic set with one! Parts are very easy to make into something else, meaning you can easily change it from a custom pickup into a little racer, without even being a Master Builder! Cons: The set is a little flimsy, dropping it can have disastrous consequences! It is only possible to add Power Functions for the dump bed and the drive wheels, you would need to COMPLETELY redesign/rebuild it to add a steering motor. Decorative elements have a tendency to fall off. Only the rear wheels have drive (CV joints), the front wheels just roll along freely. Despite being "Cheap for what you're getting." it isn't cheap. Anyway, I would rate this set a 8/10 overall. I hope this has been helpful to all who are looking into purchasing this set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to Build and Play This LEGO Technic kit is one of the best ones I have gotten my hands on. I love it. I had as much fun as I did making it as I do playing it. I love the suspensions on the truck and love the many moving features such as the chairs, doors, tow cable and the truck's trunk. I am really satisfied with the product and it looks awesome in the room. It is amazing when you are building the truck and are trying to guess and realizing what the part you are currently making will become in the end. LOVE IT! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big model and good value for money Overall I liked the model very much. It is the biggest Technic model I ever built so far, standing over a feet long. One thing I am missing is motorized drivetrain and steering. But there are some youtube videos by LEGO experts showing modified versions of this model with motorized drive and steering with remote control; it will be very good exercise and learning to try them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Customized Pickup Truck Got this set 2 weeks after it was released for the US market, however I first it online after some guys posted pictures of the set early this year supposedly from a major toy fair in Europe. It is a great set to own and one of the biggest sets Lego has built, its big, its red and it screams American - the model reminded me of the Power Wagon from the early 1950's and being a truck guy I knew I needed to have one quick. I think visually speaking the set is more appealing than the 42030 (that's just how I see it), it is a nice addition to my collection, the truck seems to be almost in proportion to the Lego Unimog U400 8110 set (in scale, though the Unimog surely dwarfs this one), for $99 this set does not even look cheap, its loaded with features best being the tipping bed and the detailed V-6 engine with turbochargers, the stock wheels and tires felt small for me so I modded mine with Unimog-style wheels/tires and surprisingly they do not rub against the rear mudguards of the truck, the winch is also strong for the truck and gave it a meaner look. The truck's suspension is pretty sturdy, I bought mine with the 8293 Power Functions set and motorized it right away, works even well. My complaints are: - its not a V-8 - Rear-drive, could have been a 4WD truck - Since its a rear drive, only one differential, could have designed it with 2 or 3 diffs Overall the truck still looks good and is great addition to anyone's collection.
