LEGO Technic - HEAVY LIFT COPTER - 42052 is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy lift helicopter. As an ardent Lego fan of Technics ,I had to have this set when it came out. It took a while to build as I don't sit there till its finished. However it was a great build. It is a big model . It compares in size to the cargo plane ,which I consider big. But a few major fault in the build I think. 1 the string used for the winch is awful i.e. too thin and weedy. Even with the weight on it, it still tangles. Maybe Lego need to source waxed black nylon sail thread that seems to work better. 2 I didn't like how the tail fins just flap about. I know you would have spent ages designing this product, so why fall down with lose flapping tail fins? 3 I feel another motor would have been better for the functions and one motor for the blades 4 Surely some lights could have been included? You need to research anti collision lights ie red flashing . 5 The rear undercarriage, surely some shock absorbers could have been used rather than just loose fitting /flapping undercarriage? This is a nice product overall ,I understand keeping the cost down. How ever this isn't a cheap product so for a few extra pounds it could be so much better. I hope these points are seen a constructive. I aim to buy the crawler crane next

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build, small improvements needed. Let me start by going off the topic of this specific lego set to help you understand the reason for my thoughts listed below. My first lego technic set in many years (post childhood) was 42025, the cargo plane, controls located in a good spot and very useable. I very much enjoyed that build and got back into lego building this past year with the crawler crane and mobile crane sets, both with good useability/playability, so when I saw that a helicopter was coming out that would go with the cargo plane I had to get it. This build was fun and works well but I would have liked a few small improvements, more for convenience than anything. First off, at certain points in the build you have to flip your part upside down to install something. Both sides of this set are built on so it doesn't always lay exactly flat which can make putting the part in interesting. If you aren't careful you might loosen another part pushing that one in. The set, once larger was a bit unwieldy to put some later parts in. My best option was flipping it upside down in my lap or using a pillow underneath for support. Second, the switch placement. Everything works fine, but using it is another matter. Yes, for most of us we will only turn it on a few times to show the features to friends and family. For those wanting to use it as a toy I can't recommend it as much. To use the cargo door isn't a problem, nor is having the rotors spin. The moment you want to use the cargo hatch underneath or the winch it becomes a bit more of a problem. You can't support the frame anymore from the underside. I would not trust holding the set together by the tail or front end so that leaves me with holding it from the top frame/sides or putting the wheels on the ledge with the cargo door open to the air. That presents a problem if it falls of course. Perhaps changing the locations of some of the controls is an option. The power is on the underside and there is a switch on either side for your controls. The hardest controls to use were the cargo hatch and winch as the power switch is on the underside of the opposite end of the helicopter. As an adult my hands can reach it, but this nearly becomes a two person job for a child I would think. All in all I would definitely recommend the helicopter, it just needs a couple refinements. :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Russian Beauty I've built the 9396 helicopters and the 42025 cargo plane, but this set is so much better than either!! I have always loved and admired Russian aviation design, so I was ecstatic when I saw this new Lego helicopter. Designed after the Kamov Ka-32 helicopter, this helicopter not only captures the beautiful design of the helicopter's fuselage and tail but also succeeded in capturing the co-axial rotor design!! In addition, the functions of the moving rudder and aileron, the opening ramp, and the opening bottom of the helicopter are all really really cool functions!! I saw that one reviewer complained that you couldn't use it as a toy when the bottom doors were open. I watched the Technic designer video on this set and then did this myself with my own helicopter, and the tail section is, in fact, sturdy enough to hold whilst playing with. When I open the underbelly and use the winch, I place one hand under the helicopter by the power switch, and with the other I hold on to the tail section. This works just fine for me. I have not built and do not intend to build the B model, but that really intrigued me and I think that it's another great set design. It's based off of the CH-46 Sea Knight, which were popular with Scandinavian governments before being largely sold off to civilian companies, where they remain in very active use. All in all, both designs are pretty cool, but I absolutely love the A model, the Kamov helicopter. I've always wanted a Russian plane or helicopter in a Technic set, and now I finally have one!! If anyone reading this is a serious MOCer with lots of spare parts, this helicopter would also serve as a great base for a MOC Mi-17 cargo helicopter, which I know I've always really wanted to build (Lego- that would be a great set! Just saying!) All in all, this is a very unique set, as Lego rarely bases their designs on Russian engineering; that's what made this set so special for me, and as soon as I saw it I knew I was going to get one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels about 90% complete I see a few others have posted that it isn't quite right and I can understand that and would have to agree. All in all the model is great and the size of the model was larger than expected. The Kids absolutely love it. Where I think the ideas stopped were on the Back flaps, Rudders, and Overhead Blades. When building the tail section I was like "Sweet! this is cool" and then to see they were not connected to anything to control them was a little bit of a let down (Not a huge one. lol but would have liked to see that Idea completed or ended better). We literally have a few hundred 300+ lego sets in the house. that belong to either the Kids, my wife or myself.. Every set is cool in some way. This set is just neat due to the size and power options. I think a lighting kit would be cool for the two lights on the under side. Also if they would have made this a remote and had more than one powering motor. (Thought for this would be to allow the blades to spin without having to share the same gear system for the other power options. Basically 1 motor for Blades, and the other for the power options.) Maybe then the tail control could have been integrated somehow with a servo. This would have definitely drove the price a little higher I imagine and perhaps may have even upped the build difficulty tremendously, But it would have been very cool as all heck too. The landing gear i was not too upset with as it gives the illusion of the load lifted when the helicopter is a taking off. Over all can't complain i do love it and it was actually purchased for me. I would recommend the product for any hardcore lego nut like me (or my other family members) and can't wait to see where they go with these ideas and what they come up with next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A New Year's Gift. The Russian Helicopter! I bought it New Year's day right when the set came out live on Lego Shop's website. Being the third aircraft set in my collection and my first actual helicopter set purchase this set did not fail to amaze me. The Heavy Lift Helicopter clearly shouts Russian in overall shape, it has a very distinct East European design in it which is not bad because for a fact those helicopters built during the Cold War were one of the coolest and toughest looking helicopters, these have clear purpose which is to haul troops or cargo or just about anything. You open up the box and you have these 6 HUGE blades and lots of white parts and orange components. Building the set is pretty easy and straightforward as the instruction booklet has crisp coloring on the building process. I guess as with most large/ flagship Technic set this one is sticker reliant but then its not a bad thing because they add detail to the set which for me still reminds of those large Mil Russian helicopters. You finish the set and a visual harmony of white and orange finished with dark grey parts that greets your eyes clearly shouting "let's play!" no seriously this is a very enjoyable set and of all 4 functions I like the counter-rotating blades the most which compared to the 9396's conventional approach is fresh and cool yet a simple mechanism does this. I only wish Lego's designers could have at least toyed with an L-Motor for a more responsive play. The winch and opening hatch tandem works well but as a flagship set for the First Half of 2016 I wish this has the higher quality string and aided by the more responsive L-Motor could've been more entertaining, lastly you have the rear hatch which you can load the green cargo (yes it comes with an odd-looking component which you can winch up or pull thru the rear hatch). What I don't like on this set is that unconventional approach on finishing the cabin portion using "memory sticks" and the tail rudders that oddly enough moves freely when you "fly" it, could've been connected to the other tail part (sorry I'm really familiar with airplane parts) Overall I will still recommend this set, it's a toy and one can put or revise anything in it because it's still a LEGO which means anything is possible. The set is very sturdy and really big if you put similarly scaled human toy right next to it you'll think that if it was real surely enough it will dwarf an Augusta helicopter, it's probably one of those "giants" you'll see every now and then on a hangar somewhere in Europe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is awesome The helicopter is huge, a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I never found my self getting bored at any part of the build. The functions work really well, I just hoped it could work a bit faster at some parts.i would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great desplay, somthing great to play with and has space!
